Actually, getting a 1.0 against the f'n WWE--the biggest wrestling company in the WORLD--is nothing to be ashamed about. But they showed on Jan 4th that they could get better than a 1.0 going head to head against WWE. And I think it's time we stopped downsizing TNA, they have plenty of main-stream talent now. Them not being so popular is only due to their poor advertising.

TNA not retaining their January 4th audience even with Hogan and Flair actually getting in the ring is a complete and utter failure.

1.0 is around the lower end of what they wanted, but it's not much below their thursday night unapposed slot. Calling them dead or a massive failure after one show is going over the top a fair bit.

There was two months of booking with the new direction and high priced talent though. TNA does not make much or anything from PPV or their House Shows. TNA survives from Spike TV. If TNA ratings are lower than what they were even with the numerous new high priced talent, what do you think Viacom will do?

Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan didn't draw? In 1996 I would be slightly shocked. But in 2010 I'd be shocked if they had drawn.

Hell Spike was using TNA as a lead in for a brand new show. Look at it this way. 1.0 is pretty damn good going up against WWE considering the fact that WWE is in their peak period for the year just being a few weeks away from Wrestlemania. The fact that WWE didn't cut TNA's ratings in half is good new for TNA but I'm sure they are a bit dissapointed not getting at least a 1.2. Also you could say WWE failed just as much considering they got a 3.7 last week and this week they drop to 3.4 just a few weeks before wrestlemania. That is a bit bigger drop than TNA's average 1.1.

Really, the problem is that they're not putting on a show that those first-time viewers are sticking with. Looking at their Thursday ratings since that show pretty much spells that out - stayed around a 1.4 or so on the next show after, and then just steadily declined over the next few weeks. They need to put on another huge show that'll give people reason to tune in, and then work their asses off for a few weeks or months afterward to ensure they stick with it.

I'm a tad disappointed with the rating, but oh well. Though in all honesty they should have advertised the hell out of RVD and Hardy, IMHO. ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)

I amstill wondering about how exactly they "advertised the hell out of the show" when I never saw one print add nor a comercial on any other cable channel or network station. Hogan did some press yes but he is Hulk Hogan and does interviews to stayrelevent and make money. he mentioned TNA because he's involved. But the point of his appearence on Don Imus and Sirius was for Hogan not just TNA * Mar at 9pm

However, I remember that the Jan 4th show was announced about 2 months or so before, and there were a bunch of commercials and such hyping it, not just on Spike.
This show had less than a month, excluding the rumors from the net, when it was announced on Feb. 15, about 2-3 weeks of shows and hype. I don't remember seeing much in the way of commercials for that like Jan 4th. Still, there might haver been, and I just didn't see them.

I TIVOed both and watched them back-to-back Tuesday, and vastly preferred TNA. Then again, I love the nostalgia and the comedy of Biscoff, Syxx, Hall, Nash, and have to admit to even liking Hogan a lot in his current role as "thinking man's fair boss". Abyss has developed a lot of character, too, although I want to see more aggression and less Hogan coattailing.

The quality of the show means nothing. It's all about the ratings (the only clear indicator of fan interest in your product). You could present a show of all 5* matches but if it gets beaten in the ratings by Frasier reruns it's worthless financially.

The last quarter hour and overrun are very telling. If the overrun was around .76, then people just tuned out around 10:30pm and didn't care. But this shows that (probably) people wanted to see Cena vs McMahon, then switched back to TNA after it was over. It reminds me a lot of the "Fingerpoke of Doom/Butts in Seats" night, where everyone switched over to Raw to see Foley win the title, then switched back to Nitro after it was over.

Don't we have a rule against TNA bashing on here? Eh, I've just learned to ignore the TNAphobes on this forum. Especially the ones with "I <3 Shawn Michaels" and "I <3 Smackdown" sigs.

The man knows the advertising game. They need to get him going into over-drive on putting TNA's name out there, and produce another big show.
