We dealt w. underrated matches, now for the opposite. Are there matches that are often considered the greatest of all time that you feel actually leave alot to be desired?
For me, I can only think of one. As painful as it is for me to say it / type it: the Iron Man match between Michaels / Hart @ W12. These guys are definitely two of the absolute greatest, but with this match being over 60 minutes long, their submission holds lasting alot longer than they probably should, this takes the prize for me. Few good spots during the match, but again, a "few".

I agree with Michaels vs Hart at WM12. Also I think some of the Malenko/Mysterio/Guerrero matches from WCW are a bit overrated. I enjoyed them but I don't think they're as 'classic' as most people say.
Apart from that I can't really think of any. It's a lot easier to think of underrated matches. lol

It was a great moment, had a fantastic build and made for a great historical perspective, but the Undertaker-Shawn Michaels from WM25 just didn't live up to the hype. Personally, I think that's why they had the rematch, because that was way better.

I will say this about Hart/Michaels from Wrestlemania 12. I don't think that the match has held up that well. I remember renting the event back in 1999 and thinking it was a great match, but I watched the same match on my Shawn Michaels From The Vault DVD back in January of this year and I must say that it hasn't held up that well. I still enjoyed the final moments of the match, but I thought that the hour long match, as well as no pinfalls or submissions didn't add to the flow of the match.
As for Rock vs Hogan, I still have yet to watch the match all the way through, but I don't think that the match was worthy of being match of the year. Sure, emotion and hype added to the reason it was voted as MOTY, but from the clips that I've seen, it wasn't as great as a lot of people said it was.

The Hart/HBK match from WM12 could have been totally awesome if it wasn't for the fact that it was over an hour long. There is NO reason a wrestling match should go to 60 minute. Heck, 30 is really pushing it as far as I'm concerned.

The deal with the Hart/Michaels Iron Man match is it was constantly changed from 3-3, to 2-2, to 1-1, to no falls at all. (What I understand is that it was all Bret's doing. He didn't want to look weak dropping too many falls.)
It was ok that it went to a draw, but a couple of falls would have been nice.

The Flair- Kerry Von Erich title switch from Dallas in 1984 has gotten a lot of love in the past for some reason but after watching the match I couldn't really say why. It's maybe 15 minutes of action ending on a random back slide.

Bret Hart vs British Bulldog, Summerslam 92 - Nothing in that match screams "epic" it's just a solid performance with a good story. If WWE are holding back from coming to Wembley Stadium to protect this match, I will dislike it even more.

IMO the rematch wasnt half as good, and take away Shawns moonsault trew da taybow, it had nothing on the first match. The crowd alone made the first match better. When HBK kicks out of the tombstone, the place EXPLODES.

Any Michaels-Undertaker match.
They are all great but incredibally overrated.
They are good workers putting on a great match at Mania...
Angle-Michaels Mania 21 as well.
Overrated as all hell.

The main two that spring to mind are Jericho-Shawn from WM19 which was just a bit 'meh' and Jericho-HHH last man standing from Fully Loaded 2000 which I remember made up of "big spot-drawn out 9 count-big spot-drawn out 9 count".
Also the Austin-HHH 3 stages of hell match that just went far too long.

The second one had build, storyline and emotion behind it and kept me rapt.

The Big Show vs Ric Flair ECW Title match. Yes, there's a novelty element involved in seeing a Ric Flair garbage match. But the match itself is horrible.

Benoit vs HHH vs HBK..... The emotion of the finish was great, but the match overall was just a standard triple threat to me.

They built it perfectly, that sublime Placebo video helped, and it became 2 guys desperately clinging on to the Streak or the Career. The first one was just "I'm going to beat the Streak, and thats that." But for me personally, the first one just pissed drama out of every orifice. I went through the archives earlier and found the official WM25 thread, and people were marking out like kids in there for 20 pages.

I'm going to join the Bret-HBK Mania 12 Iron Man match Brigade. I remember being absolutely amazed and on the edge of my seat the entire time when I watch it live back then, but I have not been able to watch it the whole way through since then without some serious fast forwarding.
