Funny how Rock made homosexual jokes all the time but nobody complains. Cena makes a little joke about Gabriel leading an alternative lifestyle and we're up in arms about it. Figures. Well.... exactly. I'm not saying the world couldn't do without these kind of jokes, but the reactions on here are as predictable as the WWE's attempts at humour. Cena a homophobic bigot? Really?

Trust me, it wasn't anything witty on Cena's end. But some of the stuff Rock said about Kevin Kelly was far more offensive, back in the day. I think it'd be great if people just stayed consistent with their reasons for disliking Cena, instead of finding little things every week.

But as it's Mr. WWE, the face of the company making gay jokes it's really uncalled for, because he basically buried him for being 'gay'. Buried? Yeah... Ask Spirit Squad if they consider it a burial. It makes me laugh that so many people are "all about gay rights and not making fun of gays", but then claim that Gabriel was buried, made fun of, or accused of being gay. Accused, as if it's some sort of crime! I suppose it's easy for me to say being a straight female. But I see wrestlers having to play up to racial/ethnic stereotypes (see Kovloz, Vladimir; Marello, Santino; Regal, William et al) because creative can't handle letting them be themselves as more offensive.

You might not agree, but it is my opinion that several years of very public statements on an international stage continually reaffirming the assumption that gay = negative, in a real-life context where lgbt people lack social privileges enjoyed by non-lgbt people, ought to earn one a distinction of some sort. Cena would be far from the only one to earn such honors. Hell, I like the man. Everyone has faults, I feel that this one happens to be one of his.

All of you need to stop being butthurt. Where where you when Virgil around for the first time. It's a gay joke. Every "minority" gets one. They happen. "All of you". Read the thread again. Not everyone is offended about it, and I stated that I found the joke lame, but not offensive. I hate comments like this. Stop being a f***ing grammar Nazi. I hate comments like this.

Ok, so Cena is making fun of each member of Nexus. What does he say to make fun of Gabriel? He implies that he is gay. Why would being gay be something to mock someone for? Why would Cena expect people to laugh at the idea of Gabriel being gay? It is especially regrettable that the person doing the mocking is the superbabyface of the PG Era who appeals to children.

Infact, I think more people are getting offended about the people getting offended.

If you look at the GAY COMMUNITY?! thread in off topic, we've all been calling Gaybriel on that for ages.
In fact, it's the second joke he's had about it on WWE tv, as Otunga called him GAYbriel with emphasis at one point during NXT.
Sure, you can find a reason to be outraged in there, and yeah, I dislike that he made it sound like being gay is insult............but you dont wear purple sparkles and have hair like that and think people aren't going to at least question.

As someone who has criticized the joke twice on this thread, let me clarify that I am not a "Cena Hater." I generally don't like jokes like this, but I don't really mind it in certain contexts like with a comedian who does adult humor or even on a show like South Park. I do dislike this kind of humor on WWE, especially during this PG era. I am not at all offended when someone jokes religion, but I think it would be out of place for WWE to seriously mock a religion. In the same way, I don't want to see PG-wrestling show acting as though being gay is bad or something that should be mocked.

I knew as soon as he said it, the PC police would be drawing their weapons and start firing. It really has gotten old seeing people cry and whine every time someone says something they deem inseeennnnsssittive. Instead of taking it for what it was, a simple attempt at a joke that wasn't meant to harm anyone, you guys go nuts. And something like this is only offensive unless you allow it to be. And if you allow something something like that to bother you then good grief. It's absolutely absurd.
Good lord, this country has turn into nothing but a nation of whiners and complainers. I would hate to think some of you are like this in real life...where a butterfly could probably knock you over.

Some people type as if they're talking to a group in real life. He'd be able to look at or gesture to "all of you" in an argument and everyone would know who he meant. You shouldn't get all bent out of shape about it and call people out on it as if he meant everyone in general, when that's not the case.

To be fair, the crowd didn't boo him for it, it was more of a shocked 'ooooohhhhhhhh' like it was a 'burn' comment.
I think quite a few people actually think that Justin is gay, so it was more a 'big reveal' reaction that a 'boo' reaction imo

I just love that maybe 3-4 people at most have said that they found the joke offensive and it's then followed by hoardes of "OH MY GOD IT'S A JOKE, BUNCH OF WHINERS, PC BRIGADE" etc etc. Another case of people complaining about the complainers more than the actual complainers themselves...and yes, that last sentence was a chore to type.
I think some of you need to step back and calm down.

I would hate to think some of you are like this in real life...where a butterfly could probably knock you over. Which country? Raw is broadcast to many countries and this message board has users from many countries. I am surprised to read that you don't like "whiners and complainers" after reading your post, though. Anyway, as one of the "complainers," I think it is perfectly fair to criticize a PG wrestling company for making this type of humor. I would not complain at all if it were made on South Park or from a comedian who does adult humor. Hell, even WWE seemed to think the joke was not PG because Cena said he could not explain it on Raw, but on a Late Night TV show. As I said earlier, I don't mind gay jokes (well, I am not a big fan of them, but I don't mind them), but I don't care for Pg-WWE using them. Just like I am sure many others don't mind religion being criticized by comediens/South Park, but would find it inappropriate for PG-WWE to make fun of religion.

As someone who has a pretty 'alternative way of thinking', I was more amused by it because it's the second one he's had.
Wonder if he cares?
