The most logical guy to be behind Nexus is...............Eugene. Here's why:
Nexus stated that they were tired of being made fool's of every week on NXT by doing competitions etc........
Eugene can come out and be "normal" saying that WWE made him act mentally challenged and humiliated him. For his revenge, Eugene has summoned the Nexus to help him get revenge on everyone in WWE.

Don't know if Cena would work with the beatdowns. HHH might work. I like it to be someone though who feels they have been held back and held down. I think Jericho might work in that situtation, he could say he's been held back and down even when was champ and his Unfying of the titles has never mattered.

"Hey I beat the s*** out of Darren Young, JUST KIDDING!" That was punishment for putting Steamboat in the hospital. There, plausible enough of a spin attempt? Let me try... Cena: "Beating up Darren Young threw everybody off. They thought I was fighting against you guys." Barrett: "I have to say John, it was a brilliant plan." Young: (bandage on his head) "What? Nobody filled me in on this plan."

How could you POSSIBLY have Cena as the leader? Theres been too much gone both ways. HHH hasnt worked heel since 2005 (tweener in early 2006). If he is in a non-wrestling role, then it could be good. "Hey I beat the s*** out of Darren Young, JUST KIDDING!" Exactly. "Hey guys, you remember when you all tore up the ring, beat the crap out of me and then Hardcore Holly kicked me in the head while shouting that Im not better than him? It's all cool. Forget about it."

Honestly, based off the promo he gave last summer...Carlito would have made perfect sense. If the audience wouldn't react to it in complete silence. If he was still under contract, I'd have him repeat that, try to glom onto the Nexus... who then splatter him in the middle of the ring. People sense the momentum shift, try to get in on it, and get actively rejected. And killed dead.

It's Triple H and Stephanie's kids getting ready for when they own the company. I know you meant this in jest, but this actually isn't a terrible idea. Even causal fans know that HHH and Stephanie are married. It's not a secret. It was even a running gag when DX reformed that HHH married "Whatshername." HHH could plausibly be explained as the Nexus leader to bring in guys that he sees as the "future" of the company and to wrestle (no pun intended) control of the company away from Vince. He'll take over, and the Nexus guys are his chosen, handpicked guys that he wants as the faces of HHH's WWE.

Kevin Nash powerbombed Eric Bischoff off the stage through a table before he was revealed to be in cahoots with the nWo....I think Cena just getting an ass kicking before being with Nexus wouldn't be that bizarre

I think wife swapping with Hogan had more to do with it. *sees a lawyer* ALLEGEDLY!

It's quite simple for Cena.
Have Cena say that after the initial beating he suffered at the hands of the Nexus, he realized that he wasn't going to be "consumed" by them, instead he offered to help them and have them channel their aggression in a more positive manner. Cena sees Nexus as the future and since he (Cena) has already beaten everyone else in the company, he wants Nexus to prosper so he can have competition in the future. Cena was willing to take a lot of beatings to accomplish their goals. Then he commends Darren Young for sacrificing himself for the greater good.

Cena always wanted to join the Nexus, but he and Darren Young had legitimate issues due to their shared past in a cloning lab. When he took out Young, the Nexus didn't help their ally, realising that Cena would be more valuable. As such, Cena then conspired with the remaining Nexus members to disguise Young as himself, and sent him out for the handicap match, explaining why he actually lost rather than 'overcoming the odds'.

Shame that Bischoff is working for TNA. He'd be a great mastermind behind this.

You can make Triple H the mastermind behind all three of the big WWE mysteries:
1. He's the Mystery GM because Vince decided to give his son-in-law a chance to run the company's flagship brand, but kept people in the dark because they wanted to keep the locker room from complaining about nepotism.
2. He backs Nexus because they are the future of the company he wants to take over.
3. He beat up the Undertaker for retiring Shawn Michaels, his best friend.
It could even explain why the Nexus guys have left Sheamus alone; Triple H wants to deal with him personally when he heals from the beatdown he got from him.
Also, looking outside the storyline, it gives one of their bigger names something to do while he can't compete for the next several months.

I still feel like it would ruin the idea of them despising those that are established.
