I like it. He has a great smile, but srsly, it's time for #realtalk. I honestly like it, because he's very happy to be beating the holy hell out of Miz all the time, which I can understand, so that completely justifies the whole "smile all the time" thing to me. It also make him seem more face-ish to the people watching, if you know what I mean. A lot of people don't know his stuff pre-WWE, I'm sure, so it makes him come across as more of a face, especially to the little kids. That's why they like Cena so much, because he smiles all the time. Just my take on the thing. c: Hmm good point. They're probably just trying to emphasize that he's good now since the last time the casual fans saw him (before he returned) he was spitting on John Cena and kicking him in the head.

Evan Bournes smiling is more annoying to me since he always loses.

I don't really get why we're supposed to be on Bryan's side here at all, honestly. The fact that he comes off like an asshole who doesn't take his work seriously is one thing, but there's also the fact that on NXT Miz was rightly taking issue with him being a total jobber who thought WWE should be flattered to have him there.
Not to mention those times on NXT where Miz honestly seemed to be trying to get him to pick it up from a charisma standpoint. Those weren't often, of course, and more often than not Miz was degrading him, but just watching over the season I think it's a bit much to play it as Miz being a terrible pro. At least he tried to get a lesson through to him, unlike basically every other pro in all three seasons.

Well, he's being seen by you that way. I don't know that that qualifies as a "wide audience," though. This part of the wide audience sees him as someone who has been subjected to such ridiculous indignities by Miz over the past year that he finds it absolutely sublime every time he gets the chance to humiliate him. It's the back-and-forth beginnings of a feud that could eventually get intense, if they can ever prove to one another that each of them are worth taking seriously. Right now, Miz thinks Bryan's a total loser and that his wrestling isn't a good enough reason to respect him. Right now, Bryan thinks Miz can't wrestle his way out of a paper bag, and the rest of what he does well isn't enough to make up for it. So, Miz disrespects Bryan by subbing someone else into the match they were supposed to have. And Bryan disrespects Miz by smiling ear to ear as he makes both of them tap out. And it's going to go on that way until the competition between them has become fierce enough that each of them sees a worthy competitor in the other. And if this feud goes on long enough for that to happen, what comes out of it is gonna be something to remember. The wide audience being the people who haven't seen him in ROH and haven't seen his 'intense fueds'. They see a guy who was bullied by his mentor for two months and ripped apart on commentary and now he walks out every week with a cheesy grin. I get what you mean about it going somewhere but it's just annoying to see him every week looking like he doesn't give a crap about this fued or what he's doing. That's how I think it will look to some of the 'WWE Universe'. But it doesn't look like he "doesn't give a crap"...it looks like he's enjoying stretching the crap out of the guy who's been looking down his nose at him for most of the year(and his flunkie). It's a grin of satisfaction.

Yeah I dislike it too. I liked it when he had it on Riley the first time, it made sense and was funny. But I didn't like it during his promos.
I'm pretty sure it's on purpose though, he looked intense as crap during Summerslam. He just needs to stop doing it lol

I get the feeling for the most part the anti-Bryan crowd would be saying "He's too angry" if he started coming out all too SRS.

I posted this in the other thread, it works better here..... "It might just be me, but I don't get why DBD's gimmick is that he's smug and thinks he's too good for the WWE. I'm not sure yet whether it's intentional, but it's irritating." I presume he's playing up his character that he's a hero to smarks who do think he's too good of a wrestler to be wrestling Alex Riley. As has been said, I'm not sure what about the character is supposed to be likeable. He doesn't think he's to good for WWE. He thinks it's plain he is good enough for the WWE and just wants to laugh at these idiots who keep coming up with reasons to say he isn't.

I not only dislike the act of smiling during his matches and promos, I really hate his actual smile as well. He has more lines in his smile than most senior citizens.

I thought it was like he had snapped and was getting great enjoyment out of killing Miz. Like he's just a crazy f***er.

I think Bryan is still learning the WWE ropes. Give him some time. The smile has to go though, he just looks silly.

At least he tried to get a lesson through to him, unlike basically every other pro in all three seasons. except that assumes Miz knows how to get people to like him. As he is a pain in the ass heel, he doesn't. Alex Riley demonstarted Miz's idea of charisma in season 2. It got him voted off and a highest ranking of three.

Daniel Bryan vs The Miz this Sunday night is HUGE for both wrestlers. I can't wait.

Doesn't really matter to me if he's smiling or not, since he'll always still have the height of a ten year old and a head the size of a camels.

what's interesting to me is that so many people consider smiling a lack of seriousness.

Doesn't really matter to me if he's smiling or not, since he'll always still have the height of a ten year old and a head the size of a camels. So HBK has the height (without the lifts) of what, an 11-and-a-half year old? Seriously. Bryan is a kayfabe 5'10, which means a legit 5'8. And Shawn was a kayfabe 6'1, which means a legit 5'10. Just like Kane's a 7-foot monster at 6'7 and what have you. Heavyweight boxing used to be the big draw, but nowadays people are drawn to the lighter weightclasses where smaller, faster boxers have more exciting fights. MMA has draws up and down the card in terms of weight. Why shouldn't wrestling be the same? Sure, it's nice to have imposing presences, but that isn't the be-all, end-all. I mean, if we want to have the little guys looking like Bret and Owen from the early- to mid-90s, then you better get the E to get rid of its wellness policy forthwith.
