Personally I think the only real problem with this "match" was that the chosen victim was the United States champion. Unless WWE is planning on building a program between Sheamus and Bryan, which may well be the case, all it does it build Sheamus back up at the expense of one of the more over guys on Raw.
Until this point, I thought WWE had been handling Bryan's time on Raw pretty damn well. Having successfully completed his first PPV title defence, he really is managing to look impressive despite being rather small for a WWE guy. What this match does is reinforce the unwritten rule that main-eventers are above and beyond anyone below them on the card, to such a degree that they can simply flatten them. About a month ago, John Morrison damn-near beat Sheamus but now a guy who beat Morrison, the day before, gets completely squashed.
Had he not already had a match earlier in the night, I would have expected Evan Bourne to be the one to take this fall. Bourne already has a history of losing to Sheamus, and jobbing in general, but is popular enough for a beatdown of this brutality to still be impactful.
As implied in my first paragraph, I can only assume/hope that this is the start of program between Bryan and Sheamus. While it would seem odd for Sheamus to suddenly drop down to competing with mid-carders, it could allow Bryan to move further up the card. There really is absolutely no point to this squash if they aren't planning on going anywhere with this, all it does is devalue the US title to give a win to the guy who barely lost to the new WWE champion.

Eh, it made Sheamus look badass; and ultimately it didn't/won't hurt Bryan, but I think him getting his ass kicked from pillar to post making him look strong is a bit of a reach.

Actually, I know I'm going to sound like I'm jumping the gun WAY too early, but I think this is the beginning of the end for Bryan being taken seriously by the WWE.
Take a look at the reactions DBD has been getting since his return. His return at Summerslam was lukewarm at best. His feud with Miz has been really good from a storytelling point of view, but most of the time, fans aren't necessarily rooting for Bryan, they're just rooting against the Miz. (which, btw, means Miz is doing his job right). You could really put anybody in Bryan's place in that feud and they'd likely get the same reaction Bryan is getting now.
Now go back to HIAC, and watch the intros of the triple threat match. Bryan got NO reaction. None. Not a sound. Almost nobody in the aisle seats were sticking their hands out. Kids sitting in the front row couldn't care less.
Admittedly, he got a decent reaction at the end, but I think that was more credited to Miz doing his job right and the fact that it was an overall good match than people actually caring about Bryan.
Blame Bryan's lack of promo skills, or the beyond atrocious way he was booked during NXT. Whatever the reason, it doesn't change the fact that in general, Bryan is NOT as over with the general WWE audience as some fanboys want to believe.
Yes, the guy is still the US champion. Yes, I believe that booking your US champion like he was Iron Mike Sharpe -- no matter who that is -- is beyond stupid for a long, long list of reasons. It's just as stupid as when they did it to Rey during his first WHC run. The biggest difference between the two is Rey is a main eventer with a diverse, dedicated fan base and easily recovered. Bryan does not have that luxury.
My prediction: This is the first step towards Bryan's move to the jobber ranks. This will not start a Bryan/Sheamus feud, and little to nothing more will come out of it except in recaps to put Sheamus over. Bryan will soon lose the US belt, and he'll be joining the ranks of Yoshi Tatsu and Evan Bourne soon.
Whether or not this is a good thing is a matter of opinion.

Danlieson having no promo skills is WWE fiction. The guy is very charismatic.

It was stupid. They could have used a local jobber, Yoshi Tatsu, DARREN YOUNG, or anyone who wasn't the freaking United States Champion who just made the Miz tap out for the second time in a row on PPV. It makes Bryan, Miz, and the US Title look like shit.

This is why titles mean absolutely nothing in the WWE. Orton can beat up the tag team champions by himself and the United States Champion clearly isn't in Sheamus' league. And then they wonder why they can't make any new stars. They mean something, just maybe not what they used to. Overall the tag belts aren't worth much in the WWE right now. They're used to push midcard talent, or as a place for former main eventers on the downside of their career. The idea that the WWE champ Randy Orton could trounce the tag champs single handedly sounds fine to me. Orton is the probably the #3 guy on the roster right now and is considered to be on a completely superior level to Mcintyre and Rhodes. Do you think Stone Cold Steve Austin could have beat their asses at the same time? Orton is supposed to be at a similar position relative to the rest of the roster as Austin was in his best days. I think the same thing is true of Sheamus and the US title. Daniel Bryan is just not considered on the level of Sheamus, US champ or not. Seamus is always in the WWE title picture, and is always out for his next title shot. He could give a shit about getting a clean win over Bryan. I would expect any of the main world title competitors to be able to win something like the US title at will, it's just that they don't consider it worth their time in pursuit of the World titles. I really liked this match, and I'm a big fan of Daniel Bryan. Over the past year I've disliked Sheamus a lot, but since just before Night of Champions I've warmed up to him a lot. I think I might be a Sheamus fan now I feel like a hypocrite lol. I talked so much shit about him earlier this year. also my first post

Nope, that's just the way people say that. Then tell them they're saying it wrong.
