This is my take on the match.
You see Bryan is the best WRESTLER on the roster, not the best brawler. Sheamus knows this going into the match and knows that Bryan can beat him using his wrestling and submission skills. So Sheamus right off the bat uses his power and size to overpower Bryan and beat him down, then once he gets him down he repeatedly knees him in the head until he gets disqualified because he knows that if he breaks off and allows Bryan to get up he can use his quickness and skills to out wrestle him and get the Labell lock. Sheamus knows he can't outwrestle Bryan so has to beat him down to disqualification because Sheamus is scared that Bryan would beat hoim in a fair wrestling match.
Essentially Sheamus beat down Bryan not only because of his frustration from the night before but also to get intentionally disqualified because he didn't want to face him fairly.
This match in my opinion did two things, it showed Sheamus as a cold hearted powerfull monster, and showed Byan as a guy whose wrestling skills are so great that a main eventer like Sheamus does not want to face in a fair wrestling match.

I don't know, man.
The WWE.com write up says something about Bryan's limitations going up against Sheamus or words to that effect. It just seemed like Bryan was a jobber who is not in the same league.
What I'd rather have seen was Bryan using his quickness initially to frustrate Sheamus further, maybe tease the LeBell Lock, and then have the beatdown which led to the DQ.
Maybe Bryan will have a chance for revenge next week, but I doubt it.

A fine explanation, but I didn't hear that coming out of Cole/King's mouth last night. So, to the average viewer, all they saw was "Man, Daniel Bryan got absolutely destroyed! What a chump." So while I'll agree Sheamus looked strong, that match did Daniel Bryan no favors whatsoever.

Unfortunately the match was a complete squash... Even if he wasn't US champion, DBD should have been booked better than that. Evan Bourne would have gotten some offense in...

Bryan is slightly taller and bigger than Rey Mysterio so he is limited against a man Sheamus's size. Plus he doesn't have Rey ability to overcome the odds as an underdog. Considering Sheamus kicked Khail's ass last week, WWE is trying make the Pale Warrior a ruthless monster who rather stomp the s*** out of his opponent than wrestle them. What I'm worried about is Bryan is his crowd pops are mediocre. At some point it going to be justified to taking the US title off him due to that.

Evan would've put up some futile offense, then get his ass kicked. DBD didn't even get that luxury at all last night.

Having watched WWE all my life I can say that this kind of thing happens a lot. Yes it was a squash but it wasn't a burial or anything to worry about.
The one reason it was Bryan getting the beating is because Bryan, to some extent, matters now. It gave the beating more meaning because it was up against someone we know and care about.
I agree with the OP. Bryan is clearly being booked as someone who is a threat in a fair match. But is a bit inexperienced as far as all the other aspects of WWE life are concerned.

Sheamus could eat Bryan for breakfast... literally. Even though I love Bryan.

While I understand them using Bryan because beating up the US Champ means more than beating up Santino, it does feel like a waste.
I kinda wish Bryan would have ran out and sabotaged Sheamus in the battle royale. He was going out anyway.

I don't see how it benefitted Bryan, or even the US title. It made the champion look like a complete jobber.
Which, you know, isn't that far from the truth... but they really shouldn't have just fed him to Sheamus like that.

How many other guys on the roster can say that they are 1 and 0 vs. Sheamus?

i think the beat down was the most believable thing in wrestling thats happened in a while.
sheamus is a big dude. he's like, 6'6", 280 pounds, and obviously built.
DBD is like, 5'8"? 5'9"? not 200 pounds. he beat the miz for the title, who is *roughly* his size. i don't think it hurt DBD at all. it's just realistic.

"realistic" and "wwe" go together like peanut butter and mayonnaise.

While I feel bad for Bryan, I am happy that Cole wasn't dancing on the desk cheering for Shaemus for killing the "Hated" DBD.

I think people are forgetting one important detail:
Sheamus beat on Bryan so badly because he SKIPPED THE FIVE COUNT. If this were an actual match, Bryan would have been saved by Sheamus breaking the count and it wouldn't have looked as bad as it did. Anyone could do that in a match, just wail on the other guy until they get DQ'd, but Sheamus had snapped and didn't care, that's all there is to it.
In kayfabe terms, you could buy that Bryan wasn't expecting Sheamus to get himself DQ'd, hence why he got destroyed.

When Mysterio beats guys bigger than him, people complain and say it's not realistic.

! - Daniel Bryan won
2 - It wasn't even a match, it was a brutal beat, and as Ichiman say, in a normal match Sheamus would have stepped back from Bryan and let him up. In this case, he didn't get a chance to recuperate, and was knocked out. If someone was punched before the bell in boxing by someone else on their level, they would have no real chance - that's how I see this.

It hurt the title more than the guy.
The US Champion is meant to be the logical step up main eventer, yet Sheamus, a relatively new main eventer crushed him.
Great US Champion you have there WWE.
The fact it was DBD makes no difference.

While I feel bad for Bryan, I am happy that Cole wasn't dancing on the desk cheering for Shaemus for killing the "Hated" DBD. Kinda reminds me of three or four weeks ago on Raw, when Miz and Riley beat the snot out of DBD, Cole wasn't exactly in jubilation that time.
