I didn't read this thread, but I am going to assume nobody mentioned Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Shame on all of you! Forgetting such a memorable disconnected sequel. I mean, not one of you mentioning it. I mean, it's worth at least a tiny reference.

You're not doing it right Mads: the answer is Halloween 3 Season of The Witch. Nah, was totally related, so it's disqualified. That kid whose head goes squish inside the jack-o-lantern mask? His cousin went to school with a kid whose father once made a business trip to Holland with a co-worker who at some point had bought a pet dog from a store of which the owner used to live next door to Laurie Strode. What's that make us? Absolutely Nothing!

Some of these answers are ridiculous. The topic isn't "bad sequels", or "sequeals that suck". it's Sequels with NO CONNECTION WHATSOEVER to part 1.
For instance:
- American Psycho 2: Main character killed the main character from part 1 and studies him as a hobby. I'd call that a connection.
- Ninja Turtles III: WTF? It has the freaking Ninja Turtles, Splinter, April, and Casey Jones in it. How is that not connected?
- Nightmare On Elm Street 2: It's a Freddy Krueger movie.
- Predator 2: Absolutely a direct sequel. They even have a conversation about part 1.
- Living Dead series: They're all about the Living Dead, and directed by the same guy. That's a connection.
- Leprechaun: They all have the Leprechaun in them.
- Bond films: They're all James Bond films.
- Jason X: It was about Jason in the future. Sure, most people thought it sucked, but how is there no connection?
- Mario games: They are all Mario games.
There's even an argument to be made for Halloween 3 (btw, has anyone mentioned that yet?). During the film, they see an ad for part 1 on tv.
Unless of course, we're referring only to linear plot connections. Even then, that only negates Bond and Halloween 3 from my list.

Well first of all, there's Halloween III: Season of the Witch
But I'm gonna go somewhat obscure and say Vampires: Los Muertos. It's meant to be a sequel to the John Carpenter Vampires movie, but has nothing in common with that film and who replaces James Woods as the protagonist but Jon Bon Jovi himself. They did a third one too, which also has no connection to the two previous movies.

May I mention...... The Mighty Ducks movies.
Also, Hexen II was somewhat a departure from Hexen.
Actually I reconsidered and Hexen II is close enough as a sequel.

He's so ridiculously out of character there's no possible way he can be.

The Zombie series.
I'd like to quote James Rolfe from his chronologically confused video:
It started off with "Dawn of The Dead", the sequel to "Night Of the Living Dead". The European version of "Dawn Of The Dead" was recut and the title was changed to "Zombie". Then an Italian made sequel was made called "Zombie 2". A sequel to a sequel that spawned a whole line of new sequels. But in the US it couldn't be called "Zombie 2", cause there's no "Zombie" and it would be wrong to call it Dawn Of The Dead 2, cause it got nothing to do with Romero's original version.
Oh, and how come no one has mentioned "Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch"?

One or more of the Jaws sequels? 28 Days Later was nothing like 28 Days! (kidding) What, you don't see the connection? ;D I love how they actually made a joke out of this with Pam from "The Office".

Ok...On a few points.....some that most people already know but for the few that may not...
1. SMB2 was not originally a Mario game, but an unrelated title called "Yume Kôjô: Doki Doki Panic". The original Super Mario Brothers 2 is SMB:The Lost Levels in the Western Market. Hence the drastic departure in gameplay, enemies, and main antagonist.
2. Halloween 3, according to apocrypha and hearsay, was more in line with John Carpenter's original "vision". Apparently the series was supposed to have a unifying theme of the Halloween holiday rather than a specific character or set of characters.

Could we maybe change the thread title to "sequels with very little connection to the original"?
