Requiem for a Dream really really got to me the first time I ever watched it...I literally paced around for a half hour with my chest pounding after seeing it...No movie has ever effected me so deeply That ruined my entire weekend the first time I saw it. And I 4th Grave of the Fireflies.

I still choke up for the beginning and end of Up.
And yes, leave it to the Japanese. Ikiru makes you feel like you wasted your life, and Grave of the Fireflies makes you feel like a little b*tch for not eating every piece of your dinner.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. If you don't cry at the end of that, you are a horrible person.

Also the movie "World's Greatest Dad" with Robin Williams really got to me and it was suppose to be a comedy but it was so dark that it really pulled at my heart strings

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. If you don't cry at the end of that, you are a horrible person. I remember watching a bit of it and at the end, most of the people in the room were visably pissed about it. Must have been really bad.

"E.T." (I'll be right here.) and "Hachi: A Dog's Life" (pretty much the Futurama episode of Jurassic Bark in live-action)
Those always get me in the end.

Old Yeller was sad as hell but at least tried to have an uplifting ending with the puppy.
Requiem for a Dream was just flat out sad all the way around.

Ah, another sad movie that hasn't been mentioned.
Leaving Las Vegas.

I must be in the minority because I don't feel all that sad after watching Requiem For A Dream, I see a bunch of people that screw their lives up knowing what the consequences of their actions will most likely be. I don't sympathize with hard drug addicts.

Its a documentary but no film has ever left me as emotionally wrecked as Dear Zachary. If you ever watch it be prepared to feel just about as sad angry and hopelessly depressed as you've ever been.

I fifth "Grave of the Fireflies".
"Big Fish" also got me teary-eyed, but it was sort of a bittersweet sadness. "Grave of the Fireflies" was just overwhelmingly tragic.

I'll agree with Saving Private Ryan and Up... Up's beginning is pretty sad.
I think I have to see Grave of the Fireflies now, however.
And to second an earlier posters thoughts, concentration camp-centric movies are pretty depressing.

Watched it as a little kid and brought me to tears. Somewhere out there... beneath the pale moon light
