Its a documentary but no film has ever left me as emotionally wrecked as Dear Zachary. If you ever watch it be prepared to feel just about as sad angry and hopelessly depressed as you've ever been. I second "Dear Zachary." Nothing else even comes close. I vividly remember watching this for the first time. I saw it was on TV, the description sounded interesting, so I put it on. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Was utterly depressed and kind of in a trance-like state the rest of the day.

Big Fish does make me cry, but it's not a really tragic or sad movie, imo. It's tear-jerking more because it's bittersweet and touching. Now, for sad movies by Tim Burton, Edward Scissorhands takes the cake. Having seen it a bunch of times, just watching the opening credits and scene during a rewatch immediately makes me start bawling.

"My Girl", "The Green Mile" and "Up"
I have seen "A Requiem For A Dream" but I can't for the life of me remember a damn thing about it.

I laughed my ass off, I am not kidding. That kid was just way to stupid to deserve my emotions, I mean really. Breaking into a concentration camp although your friend tells you that it is pretty bad in there? This When I knew which was the end I was preparing to cry, but then, the final scenes were so bad executed that you just came looking with a big WTF face I mean, the kid, who saw how the jew doctor was beating to dead, how his jew friend was treated like crap, and when he finally entered to the concentration camp, and saw all the s*** that happened there, DIDN'T KNOW WTF HAPPENED ON THERE? I knew that when you had 8 years old you're innocent, but under no way you're THAT dumb, to the point that you can't side with him, both were so stupid that in theend, you just don't cared, way to kill credibility He never saw the camp itself until the very end, just his friend waiting by the fence. The whole time, he just thought it was a farm. And he was also fooled by his dad's propaganda film-as soon as he entered, he asked where the cafe was, which he had seen in that newsreel.

I'd also like to add (just to add some wrestling into it) Man on the Moon. Not that it was a sad movie, just for the end, because you knew Andy Kaufman would have been playing pranks and cracking jokes until he was 100. Of coruse, you could also add The Wrestler because we all know just how abusive and yet alluring the business is, and you could easily believe someone would do what happens at the end.

This is going to sound ridiculous, but the end of Terminator 2 is one of the saddest things ever. "I know now why you cry. But it is something I could never do."
It's epic level of sadness is only topped by two other things:
1. When Buffy had to kill Angel. God, I feel like such a baby whenever I see that.
2. Marley And Me. As a dog owner, the inevitable day that my dog dies is my biggest fear. I fear it more than my own death. I was never an animal person, but since I got a dog I can't imagine life without him now.
I'm actually a little surprised to see What Dreams May Come on this list. Obviously it would be wrong of me to tell someone else how to feel about something, but personally I found it comforting, and if such a thing as heaven exists (I know that topic's a no-no here) I hope it's like that.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Was utterly depressed and kind of in a trance-like state the rest of the day. I agree 100% not only because it is a horrible true story but the fact that I totally didn't see where it was going. I was literally so angry at the end I honestly felt like punching a hole in the wall, and these were people that I didn't know personally and an event that happened several years ago. Far and away the saddest thing I've ever watched, I have never even tried to explain any of the movie to anyone for fear that I would start blubbering telling someone about a movie. Life is Beautiful is another, I remember watching it and bawling at the end. Then I went in the living room to watch a baseball game with my dad, and 20 minutes later, when I would think about the ending to Life is Beautiful, I would start tearing up again watching the ballgame. As others have said, Up. Even more so that I watched it not long after I lost my dad last year. For that same reason I don't think I could ever watch Field of Dreams again.
