What is the saddest movie you've ever seen? This one does it for me every single time: Old Yeller.

Tough choice. Saving Private Ryan or Atonement I reckon. Well, until I remember some other really depressing films.

Requiem for a Dream really really got to me the first time I ever watched it...I literally paced around for a half hour with my chest pounding after seeing it...No movie has ever effected me so deeply

Grave of the Fireflies It has to be the saddest movie ever created. There's only about one happy moment. Everything else is sad. Everything. As if they wanted to make the most saddest movie of all time. It's a great movie though. Another great but really sad movie is La vita è bella (Life is Beautiful) though it starts like a comedy with some slapstick scenes...then Guido and his son Giosué get deported to a concentration camp, even though Guide tries to make it good for his son, inventing that game and everything, it's sad, the ending is tragic Generally most movies that play in a concentration camp and are not a action movie like The Great Escape, but more in the style of Life is Beautiful or The Grey Zone make me angry and sad at the same time.

The Elephant Man was incredibly depressing. In fact I've only watched it once even though I thought it was a really well made film. The reason is that there just seems no reason to watch it, since I know it will just depress the shit out of me.

This and Big Fish are the two movies that never fail to reduce me to a blubbering mess.
