I just realized that Fallout: New Vegas comes out in like four days and just wondered why there hasn't really been much said about it?
Also, have I just missed them, or have there been no commercials for it at all?
Is it suppose to suck or something? Fallout 3 was one of the most heralded games of all time, and here we are about to get another, and it doesn't really seem like anyone cares. (Unless of course I'm missing something. Which could very well be the case.)

Because it's not a WWII or modern era FPS, and the hype machines tend to work for those predominately.

Good question.
LOL. Maybe they're actually utilizing the rare video game development technique of "just shut up and make it."

This is just a theory, but Fallout is the sort of game where if you're gonna buy it, you are already very aware of when it comes out.
COD, Medal of Honor, Rock Band, Halo games like that draw in lots of casual players who don't necessarily follow online, and know all the release dates so it makes sense to promote the hell out of it.

I've seen a couple of commercials for it, but not as many as I expected to see. There has been the usual flood of commercials for sports games that are almost the same as last year's edition, and quite a few for FPS games. I don't think the game really needed too much hype - the reputation of Fallout 3 will be enough to get a lot of gamers to check it out. It wouldn't have hurt them to spend a little more on advertising, but I think it's safe to say that this is going to be a good seller.
I'm looking forward to next week - I can't wait to play it!

All I know is I used Gamestop's trade in bonus towards pre-ordering it. I returned a bunch of games I got there for 5-10 dollars each, plus the 25% bonus, and almost broke even.
Assassin's Creed, Dead Rising, Wii Play and Star Wars: Force Unleashed. 25 bucks for them. I know I could have got more money elsewhere, but frankly Gamestop is across the street.
Can't wait! If it is half as good as the first game, it will still be fantastic!
I don't remember there being all that much of a hype machine for Fallout 3 either. More than NV, but not as much as the other big games.

I'll wait for a Game of the Year Edition if New Vegas wins any GOTY awards.

I've been pumped for this since it was announced. I've pre-ordered the Collector's Edition and I'm taking the day off work to play it when it comes out (first time I've ever done that). I cannot wait to play this thing. And the funny thing is, my girlfriend is an even bigger fan of Fallout than I am (she's played F3 well over 25 times) and she'll kill me if I don't play it.

I also have the collector's edition reserved. Hoping to pay off the entire reservation tomorrow.
As for why so little hype, it might be an issue of it not needing it, or it will get it after it's released. Waiting for the good review scores and all that to post on the commerical.

Bethesda games are rarely over-hyped and advertised on TV. Oblivion won every award known to mankind and I don't even think it had a TV spot, I've certainly never seen one.
Not really looking forward to this one myself. The only thing that made Fallout 3 playable were the mods (don't know how people tolerate it on a console). They take awhile to really come into their own.

I remember seeing lots of Fallout 3 commercials when it came out. But maybe it's a Canadian thing or I haven't watched TV in a long time.

Wow; thanks for informing me in this thread. The first game turned me into a Fallout junkie for like 3 weeks. I obsessed over it when at work, loved the story, and never had more fun rummaging and stockpiling lawnmower parts!

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the pre-orders for this well outpaced the pre-orders for Fallout 3.
For whatever reason, I just hate mods. I install them, feel like I am somehow playing a fake game, and shut them off. Playing it on a console also means not worrying about DRM or system specifications.

Definitely agree that people aren't talking about Fallout enough... I'm particularly looking forward to the music - I regularly play the GNR songs in my car and pretend that I'm driving through the Capital Wasteland, which given some of the areas in my locality isn't that much of a stretch.

Doesn't the game have different developers? Also, I read on IGN that they weren't getting a copy of the game until the day of the release, so they'd be reviewing the game late. Doesn't seem like a good sign.

I'll wait for a Game of the Year Edition if New Vegas wins any GOTY awards. I got Fallout 3 for Christmas and Ive spent almost as much to buy it on DLC since then. I am sure its going to have some DLC and as much as I want it now, I really cant afford it. It looks awesome though.

Doesn't seem like a good sign. They've had a couple of previews of it at shows though. The word is that it is essentially more Fallout 3, and that isn't a bad thing.

It's because we all know that it's going to be good. They have a formula that seems pretty hard to screw up.

It's this a brand new game or is an expansion?
