Corey Brock of MLB.com reports that the Padres have acquired shortstop Jason Bartlett in a trade with the Rays. According to Brock, the Padres will send relievers Cesar Ramos and Adam Russell to the Rays in return.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today says that the A's are "confident" in their ability to work out a deal with free agent Hideki Matsui.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Marlins attempted to swing a three-team trade Wednesday for Zack Greinke. It fell through, but the Marlins are still intrigued by the possibility of landing Greinke and talks are expected to continue. The Fish are hoping to see an influx of cash when they move to their new stadium in 2012 and would be able to then work out an extension with the ace right-hander.

Some Red Sox news and rumors:
- The Red Sox and Tigers appear to be the finalists for outfielder Magglio Ordonez, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe. Ordonez worked out for interested teams this afternoon. Ordonez's agent, Scott Boras, says that "the market is aggressive" for the 36 year-old outfielder.
- Boras, who is also Carlos Beltran's agent, dismissed the rumored trade proposal that would send Beltran to Boston. "His plan right now is to be a New York Met. If anything were brought to him, it would depend what the situation were. I would expect him to be with the Mets."
- Former Red Sox legend Boof Bonser signed a one-year deal with the Mets.
- Among the relievers the Red Sox have shown interest in includes (takes a deep breath) Scott Downs, Pedro Feliciano, Brian Fuentes, Ron Mahay, Arthur Rhodes, Kevin Gregg and Matt Guerrier. Aside from Jonathan Papelbon, Daniel Bard and Felix Doubront, the Red Sox appear to be interested in completely gutting and rebuilding their bullpen.
- While not completely ruling it out, the Red Sox appear to be out of the Carl Crawford sweepstakes. Theo Epstein has stated that the Red Sox have yet to sign a big-money free agent, since they have not yet officially finalized a contract extension with Adrian Gonzalez.
- According to the Globe, the Red Sox plan to spend the remaining weeks of the off-season as follows: 1) $10-12 million on a right-handed or switch-hitting bat on a short-term deal, 2) $10-12 million on the bullpen, 3) $3-6 million on filling out the roster and in-season maneuverability.

Sean McAdam of Comcast SportsNet reports that the Red Sox are among the "serious contenders" interested in trading for Dodgers catcher Russell Martin. Martin, who came up through the Dodgers system as a third baseman, would likely be called upon as the Red Sox every day catcher, though McAdam suggests that he could also occasionally play first base, third base and designated hitter.
McAdam is also reporting that the Red Sox are prepared to offer relief pitcher Scott Downs a three-year, $20 million contract. Signing Downs, a Type-A free agent, would result in the Blue Jays acquiring a first-round draft pick from the Red Sox as compensation, something the Red Sox have been hesitant to give up in the past.

Tony Massarotti of the Boston Globe is reporting that there is a possibility, although "unlikely", that the Mets will entertain the thought of trading outfielder Jason Bay to the Red Sox. Massarotti did not specify the exact likelihood of such a deal, although he did say that Sandy Alderson is "willing" to deal Bay, because "that's not a contract he signed or wanted".

For the record, the deal makes Crawford the highest paid OF in MLB history, and 9th highest all-time.
