I think anyone who says they can't taste the difference are horrible liars.
Pepsi is a hell of a lot sweeter.
I've always preferred Coke... though I'll drink either.
Fun fact: Coke sends out representatives to restaurants... and order a coke... if they are brought any other kind of cola, without being told that they only have pepsi (or whatever) the restaurant will be hit with a lawsuit.
Mainly because coke doesn't want Coke to enter the common language making them lose their copyright, like Xerox and Band-Aids.

I prefer Pepsi because Coke is too acidic and the aftertaste is worse than Pepsi's.

Unless you do a blind taste test, there's no way to know if you can really tell the difference. The mind can do a lot.

It's very obvious order of highest ratio to lowest ratio
coke: carbonation, syrup, flavor pepsi: syrup, carbonation, flavor diet coke: carbonation, flavor, sweetner coke zero: flavor, sweetner, carbonation diet pepsi: carbonation, sweetner, flavor pepsi max: sweetner, carbonation and flavor equal
this all goes out the window at a fountain, where carbonation is based on consumption and equipment, and the only thing that affects flavoring is the water quality and age of concentrate.

With diet, the difference is pretty drastic.
From bottles/cans, Diet Pepsi is slightly superior- with a fizziness and 'bite' that gives it an edge. Diet Coke is more mellow, and seems to have a carbonation that fizzes out less and makes you burp more as a result.
But from restaurant fountains, Diet Pepsi is garbage, almost like a weak insipid rootbeer (and mind you, I like rootbeer) while fountain Diet Coke is very good- almost like the sugared beverage.

Yes. Coke is just awful. I don't know how someone can say it tastes like Pepsi. This.

Yes. Coke is just awful. I don't know how someone can say it tastes like Pepsi. This. Thirded.... Coke has, for lack of a better term a "bite" to it that I dislike, although that's highly alleviated by drinking it from a fountain as opposed to bottled or canned. Pepsi just seems smoother and more delicious to me.

Okay so like...I legitimately don't understand how some people can't taste the difference between the two. Pepsi is definitely a lot more sweet, in a bad way in my personal opinion. Seriously though...is there anyone here who can't taste the difference? Because I just can't even fathom that. I can easily tell the difference, but I could never tell the difference between crap beers like Coors/Miller/Bud and others can so there you go. Must be a taste bud thing.

You can absolutely not tell the difference. If you think you do that's just the power of the brand telling you it's got a unique identity. It hasn't.
Get someone to try a blindfold taste test on you. Assuming you've got a 50-50 chance of getting it right repeat it ten times to lessen the chance of a lucky guess. If you can really tell the difference you should get it right each time and if you can you should probably contact Lloyds of London to insure your palate for a considerable amount.

That's legitimately not true. The only reason I have ANY brand loyalty to Coke is because it tastes good. I don't care about anything else. Same for Pepsi, only I don't drink it because I think it tastes awful. But in the interest of curiosity and to solidify my opinion, the next time I can get my hands on some Coke and some Pepsi, I will do a blind taste test, and perhaps we'll find out if you're right.

It's not quite tasting it but whenever I drink Coke I can feel my teeth being destroyed. This. Coke leaves a sticky film of syrup on your teeth as you drink it. Pepsi doesn't have that problem.

One tastes like paint. The other tastes like sugary paint. It's why I drink green tea and water. Because you like the one that tastes like grass clippings?

Diet Pepsi>Coke>Pepsi>Diet Coke
IMHO
The Throwback/Mexicoke real sugar varieties are all pretty damn good. I especially love Mountain Dew Throwback. After years of diet pop, regular Mountain Dew seems extra syrupy. Diet Mountain Dew is less syrupy, but less flavorful. TB Mountain Dew has all the flavor of the regular stuff, but the non-syrupyness of the diet.

The only difference to me is that Pepsi sucks and Coke does not.
But Dr. Pepper trumps both.

Unless you do a blind taste test, there's no way to know if you can really tell the difference. The mind can do a lot. Not really. I tend to drink stuff like that it large gulps, so I can kinda tell by a combination of the taste and the kinda stinging feeling as the Coke/Pepsi goes down my throat. I'm not sure if it works with the diet/zero/max variations, though, since I rarely drink them.

Coke has more of a "Cola" taste and leaves kind of a thick syrup-y taste in your mouth. Pepsi is smoother, sweeter and more refreshing....the Sweet Nectar of the Gods!!

Then later on I started to like coke much more. Saying you can't taste the difference is a cheap cop out for people who hate both sodas.
