Bringing up the Earthquake and Tsunami is a bit low isn't it? blog.us.playstation.com/2011/05/05/a-letter-from-howard-stringer/I'm certain that my name, user ID and password, address (home and e-mail), etc. were compromised, but I never bought anything from PSN, nor do I have a subscription to PS Plus. I mainly use my PS3 for Folding@Home. Should I be "safe"? Not really, you're still at risk from identity theft, you may be covered financially but it would still be a pain in the arse. Of course that may never happen.

It is pretty low, their security breach was in one of their American offices, why are they bringing the Earthquake into this..

The danger from these breaches isn't that they'll buy something on PSN, it's that most people use the same passwords on multiple sites. So that's what you really need to look at and change.

wow then it could be another week or weeks until it comes back? What a joke.Thats my whole months DC universe down the drain, since i bought it a one month subscription 2 days before this happened.Seriously,if they are not sure when itll come back, then dont give people false hope with a date or time.

The solution? GO BUY AN OFFLINE GAME. Some sort of RPG or something. Maybe FALLOUT 3 or NEW VEGAS. Hell, Dead Rising 2 would be a good time killer, or even Dead Space 1 or 2. Resident Evil 5 should be fairly cheap, and I know God of War III and the first two are dirt cheap and fun as hell. Mortal Kombat is also an option, as is Street Fighter IV or Crysis 2 or Portal 2. Step 2 of this is save the receipt and mail it to SONY and demand reimbursement for it. ;D

They don't understand that games can be enjoyed without playing an elaborate game of tag or capture-the-flag with somebody in Thailand. or maybe people's solution this problem isn't go spend more money on games that you won't be able to patch for an indefinite amount of time?

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 don't require online to enjoy (though it adds a lot to the game) and you can spend TONS of time designing you own world. There are LOTS of offline games that are worth a look, providing you don't think the world begins and ends with the words SOCOM or CALL OF DUTY. Use this opportunity to check out games you otherwise might not, like Red Dead Redemption or FEAR and FEAR 2.

Thankfully I don't play much online. But if you need something to chew on go grab Mass Effect 2.

You people making judgements about all online players only being affected by this are ignorant and I say that because this is a MAJOR piece of the appeal of a PS3. I played COD only once or twice a week, usually only with friends. We play two player online. The fact that this will have been down for a month is completely and utterly ridiculous. It also affects a ton of people who download demos of games that they might otherwise buy in the future. This affects movie buyers/renters. This affects a gigantic sum of people. The fact that nearly everyone's information was compromised is ridiculous. If I suffer from identity theft, I will sue Sony. Over 100 million people TRUSTED Sony to keep their information safe and they turned their eye when it was known that the security was awful. This does not excuse Sony in the least bit. They will suffer dearly for this in terms of sales etc. I'm not mad about the online gaming THAT much but the fact that my information is out there pisses me off. Think before saying something stupid.

or maybe people's solution this problem isn't go spend more money on games that you won't be able to patch for an indefinite amount of time? Patches don't seem to be an issue - I was over my friend's house to play Black Ops a couple of weeks ago when this first happened and a patch for it downloaded and installed just fine.

You people making judgements about all online players only being affected by this are ignorant and I say that because this is a MAJOR piece of the appeal of a PS3. I don't think anybody said that, so put down the torch there. What some of us said was that all the online junkies who are complaining that they can't do ANYTHING on the PS3 can now do this radical thing called PLAYING SINGLE PLAYER GAMES. Trust us, we all know the scope and the seriousness of this. Again, nobody ever said it didn't affect other people. But the online junkies are acting like this has turned a PS3 into a brick. It's a myopic point of view. They're ignoring that single-player games can provide rich, rewarding experiences. Does online give you other options? Sure does. I had a $25 gift cert that I was ready to use on a PSN card so I could get the Castlevania DLC. That option is out the window. Today, I bought UFC Undisputed 2010 instead, cause I ain't waiting around for ... whatever month Sony gets around to bringing it up online. And you forgot that this also affects those small game developers (and even the large ones) who sold their games and DLC on PSN. EA and THQ and whatnot can afford the hit, but they don't like it ... but find a smaller company, and this could be an entire quarter's profit screwed over. Since they're offering 1 year free of a credit watching service, they've covered their bases. You can try and sue, and I'd bet you standard American currency to circular baked centerless goods it'd get thrown out of court. Take your own advice, pal. And cool it with the flaming, eh? Accusing people of being "stupid" and "ignorant" kills your argument, no matter how valid it might be. Jed Shaffer ~For somebody who doesn't play online much, sure are sensitive about it ...
