My nomination: Deep Purple
Most well known for big dump guitar anthem, "Smoke on the Water" aka the first thing every guitarist learns to try to seem cool.
Most have no idea they are a damn good blues rock band, with gems like this:

Blur - Song 2....a song that was basically them writing a mockery of what was popular in america wound up being their biggest hit in america. sad that most people have never even heard songs like For Tomorrow, The Universal, Badhead...all they know is "WOO HOO"

The first band that comes to mind is KISS. Not to say "Rock and Roll All Nite" is bad, but they have MUCH better songs in their catalog than that.

I like the song Silent Lucidity by Queensryche, but in my opinion it is nowhere near their best song. It is, however, their best known song.

Closer - by Nine Inch Nails. Instrumentally it's f***ing awesome and while I don't dislike the lyrics, it's a pretty dumb song lyrically. Though, it fits within the context of the albums concept.

Hate to say it. Muse, for the songs on the Twilight soundtracks and Undisclosed Desires.

It was the Universal that made me a fan of blur, then Song 2 came out and I was so mad all people who liked crappy music now liked blur. Also maybe Oasis, as they are known for Champagne Supernova and Wonderwall, yet have AMAZING songs like Masterplan and Sunday Morning Call

Aqua and "Barbie Girl" is the winner. They have better songs on that same album.

Madness' only #1 single in the UK was House Of Fun, a light hearted song about buying condoms. Seriously. It's not a bad song, mind, but nowhere near as good as some of their stuff.

Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right (to Party)
A song that was written as a mockery of generic party anthems became one of the biggest party anthems of all time and their biggest hit, which annoyed them so much that they have rarely ever (if ever) played it live.

Not a band, but Rupert Holmes - always pissed him off that Escape (The Pina Colada Song) was far and away his biggest song.

In what alternate universe is Smoke on the Water considered a dumb song?
Because I sure as heck don't want to live there!
