After reading all ten pages in the thread, I'm surprised no one mentioned the billboard in the middle of town. You know, the one where the second half of the sentence on it reads "...Journey Into Mystery". Loved it. I didn't see that, but I did see a sign that said the local high school football team was "The Vikings."

People asking about the Infinity Gauntlet - it does appear.
As the frost giants try to steal the cask of eternal winter, the Destroyer pops out of the wall and obliterates one. The camera angle changes to show the other two running away and the IG is behind them, just visable and each gem shines as caught in the light of the second Destroyer blast.
It's a blink and you'll miss it cameo, but it is there.

Hiddleston was AMAZING as Loki and he's gorgeous to boot. Hemsworth WAS Thor. I felt for him, hated him, all the emotions. Even though the love story didn't have a lot of time to develop, it didn't take away from anything.
Also, we need more Sif.
Second also, Idris Elba pwned all the haters as Heimdall.

I pretty much agree with all of this, but I couldn't believe how much I was pulling for Loki in the end, even after everything went down. That's quite a testament to Hiddleston's acting.

There really weren't any weak actors in this.
Anthony Hopkins - Gravitas machine. Also, could anyone else growl like he did at Loki and have it not come off as cheesy?
Tom Hiddleston - The subtlety he put into the performance was amazing. Villainous, yet utterly sympathetic.
Chris Hemsworth - He pulled off the arc from arrogance to heroism very well
Natalie Portman - Believable as both a physicist and smitten and giggling.
Stellan Skarsgaard - Not a ton to work with really, but I've never seen a bad performance from the man. He got across the wonder of a man whose childhood fables were coming true pretty effectively I thought.

I found a theater around here that has non-3D showings, so I made sure to catch one of those times and just got back from it.
All while it was going on, something was in the back of mind. It was the idea that this just wasn't a normal superhero movie. Sure, it had a lot of the elements, but it's presentation was different, the pacing was different, the story was told differently. I couldn't put my finger on exactly why this route was taken... until the credits.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh
Yep, that was it.
Marvel does one thing exceedingly well. With only a few missteps, they get the right people behind the films to direct. For Iron Man, they got a director with comedy chops. For Incredible Hulk, they got a pure action guy. For the first 2 X-Men movies, they got a guy who had experience with ensemble casts.
And for Thor, they got a Shakespearean actor. And that's why it was different, while it still contained action and comedy and all the things you expect from superhero movies, it also contained a pomposity and eloquence that really does hammer home the idea that these are supposed to be gods. It's not just the casting, but that entire element is something that just worked really well.
For the rest of it, it was enjoyable. I'm glad I got to see it without the 3D. Loki's plot shocked the hell out of me, honestly. I didn't see that twist coming because it's so... non-supervillainous of him in a way. He didn't sell out Asgard for power, he wanted to be accepted and treated as an equal and believed emulating Thor would do that. That was a really nice change of pace.
One gripe I have with it is, and this may be from me not being that familiar with the comic books and maybe just missing it the first time, but aside from Sif I couldn't name any of Thor's entourage. I know they likely mentioned it sometime, but I would have guessed completely differently. Of course, that's a small gripe.
My only other gripe was that Thor's change in character was a bit... sudden, I thought. I mean, all those years, nay, centuries of being the way he was and one night with Jane was enough to change that all.
Aside from those two, it was very enjoyable.

I just never got the names down. Or like in the movie, Xena, Jackie Chan, etc. I thought the movie was OK. It wasn't the epicness that I expected, but it was a good introductory movie.

I have absolutely no doubt that the casting for Fandral went "Find me someone like Cary Ewles!" The resemblance was way too uncanny. If Ewles was the appropriate age, he would have been cast in the role.
I find it amusing that movies are re-using actors for superheroes.
Chris Evans = Human Torch and Captain America Ray Stevenson = Punisher and Volstagg Ryan Renolds = Deadpool and Green Lantern (at least this one is Marvel/DC)
I didn't realize Hogun as Kakihara in Ichi the Killer.
I do wish the Warriors Three were a little more well developed, but there is only so much room. LOVED when they showed up at the door. FOUND HIM!

Just saw this yesterday. I liked the movie a lot, but the soundtrack was a little disappointing to me. Needed some more epic barbaric tracks.

Also, that Foo Fighters song over the credits was... really out of place.
Doesn't exactly scream "HAVE AT THEE!"

If Ewles was the appropriate age, he would have been cast in the role. According to what I found, Fandral's character in the comics was based on Errol Flynn. Given that Cary Elwes is pretty much the reincarnation of Errol Flynn, it makes sense that he'd give that vibe.

I find it amusing that movies are re-using actors for superheroes. Ryan Renolds = Deadpool and Green Lantern (at least this one is Marvel/DC) Ryan Reynolds also played Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity, so he does fit the "two guys in the Marvel Universe" deal.
