I think they should go for a different genre altogether. Action movies have, for the most part, become a joke. Unless there is a large budget to work with. How about more serious movies? There are a ton of talented writers out there who are waiting for their scripts to be discovered by somebody. Like Legendary? That didn't do all that hot either.

They really don't care about box office returns, it's only a way to get them into stores, some places don't carry straight to video DVD movies.
If they really wanted this to do well in theaters they'd have released it to more than 10 screens.

I am hearing good things about the Orton movie, well unless these people are just imagining it.

WHy don't you let Cm Punk and Cabana have their way? Cannonball run remake with all the superstars. That would seriously register number 1 on box office. Because that's actually a good idea. Therefore, it'll never happen. And one of my personal favourite early 90's comedies, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. *high fives* I love that movie.

The Rock's movies aren't that bad. The Scorpion King, Grid Iron Gang and The Game Plan were awesome! I liked Rundown and Get Smart too. He just did way too many live-action Disney movies. I also enjoyed Faster.

Given how well Knucklehead did ($75; ranking it amongst the lowest grossing Box Offices of all time), I'd be surprised if The Chaperone cracked $500 (main reason being it was in 333% more theaters than Knucklehead was).

But he's Ray Bradstone. And it had Lisa Simpsons in it. And Daniel Stern got her pregnant after he was a Cutter but before he was a Wet Bandit.

I don't know if you can consider it bombing when they're only putting it in three theaters for two weeks. Wait and see how the DVD sales do next month and then see if it bombs. If it was a wide release in every theater and nobody went to see it, THEN you could say it bombed. WWE has an interesting process set up.

The Chaperone played on ten screens, they had no expectations of making money in this theatrical run, the purpose ofwhich, like Knucklehead's, was to fulfill obligations to be classified as a theatrical film that are necessary for stores to carry the DVD or other business reasons (tax write offs?). Would oscar nomination elgibility be a reason for a theatrical run? I remember seeing something about this in another thread about a WWE film (not this one).

So, did the movie get released, or escape?

Doubtful that they'd ever even send it to the academy for consideration. It's all about Walmart and such requiring theatrical runs before carrying a DVD.
