The Chaperone starring Triple H drew virtually no business during its 'limited engagement' this weekend.. BoxOfficeMojo.com's chart listing the top grossing films for the weekend of February 18-20, with the bottom movie making $1,670 in one theater, did not rank the The Chaperone. Furthermore, the bottom five movies played in less theaters than the WWE produced film — ten. Chicago Tribune film critic Roger Moore's posted a negative review of The Chaperone entitled "'Triple H' is so unfunny it hurts." Echoing the sentiments of numerous wrestling analysts, he feels that Triple H doesn't have the comedic ability or charisma of fellow wrestling mega-stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson or Hulk Hogan, which in turns makes for an unfunny movie. www.lordsofpain.net/news/wwe/...H_Unfunny.html Lol at the guy kidding himself he was ever in Hogan, Austin or Rocks league.

Lol at the idea that Rock, Austin, or Hogan are high bars for movie success.
Now Andre the Giant, on the other hand...

Honestly I'm not sure if even bothering with these "limited engagements" is doing anything positive for the films. Are they really going to make anymore money by having them in a minuscule number of theaters for a weekend or two and then releasing them on DVD then they would if they simply went the direct to DVD route?

Wrestlers should be doing TV shows, not movies. These are movies that are so obviously devoid of quality that the star being a box-office draw is necessary, and pro wrestlers are not that. Have a bunch of them show up in a sitcom or something if them appearing in something is needed, because movies = not a good idea. Ever.

I think HHH is better suited for action movies, surely.
Only Arnold can pull of a tough guy in a kids comedy

The Chaperone played on ten screens, they had no expectations of making money in this theatrical run, the purpose ofwhich, like Knucklehead's, was to fulfill obligations to be classified as a theatrical film that are necessary for stores to carry the DVD or other business reasons (tax write offs?).

I've heard the reason they do it is some stores won't carry movies that didn't get a theatrical run.

To the best of my knowledge, WWE doesn't care about the box office. It's just minuscule bonus for them.
The limited engagement is all about being able to then sell the DVDs at WalMarts and other stores.

I was shocked when I saw it was directed by Stephen Herek. The guy doesn't direct masterpieces but he has directed some films that did decent business at the Box Office (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, The Mighty Ducks, The Three Musketeers, 101 Dalmatians and Mr. Holland's Opus) and one of my personal favourite early 90's comedies, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.

I mean, he's at least recognizable for people beyond his wrestling career. I mean, yeah, he's around B-List right now, but it's not like he's not getting theatrical releases.

I mean, he's at least recognizable for people beyond his wrestling career. The Rock's movies aren't that bad. The Scorpion King, Grid Iron Gang and The Game Plan were awesome!
