Interesting you mention Lufisto, given that she actually had to go to court for years to even be legally allowed to wrestle against men in Ontario, and full credit to her for doing so.

The way I see it, a woman believably holding a men's title without damaging the belt or the man she took it from would be pretty much impossible today in either of the three major companies, and remains that way for the foreseeable future. Yeah, but somebody the size of Kong, who's bigger than all current World Champions in the 3 top promotions, could possibly do it. Why is this so tough to believe? If Chyna could hang with Chris Jericho, the IC Champion, why couldn't she hang with Chris Jericho, the World Heavyweight Champion? It would NOT be too much of a stretch to think that a woman Kong's size could level men on a Main Event level. What shame would there be in losing to a person with Kong's physical ability? If she were 5-foot nothing, 100-nothing, sure. She's over 6 feet tall and damn near 300 pounds. That's big for a man. For a woman, it's huge.

While it could be done I don't think it'd go over with the majority of fans that well.

^ More or less the problem. Look, LuFi isn't a buck fifty (140 lbs, to be exact), and yet she can believably defeat men without making them look weak. Chyna, who was jacked and much bigger, could do and did the same thing in the WWE. Kong could, for all intents and purposes, come in to the WWE and challenge for a male title and she could be taken seriously.
However, here's why she could but wouldn't: A) There's no way you could get away with having a true to form intergender match, where a man could land blows on a woman; B) Whatever momentum you could build, could be ruined, along with the men she beat if she's allowed to lose clean to one of the "talentless featherweights" if you will (Eve, Kelly Kelly, LayCool, etc.), once she loses to one of them, her credibility is shot;and of course, C) The casual fan just wouldn't be able to sit well with a "diva" holding a men's division title.

I'd like to say that you can show a man and a woman fighting, just as long as the man isn't punching her in the face. He can throw her around a little and even do a couple of submissions, but you don't neccessarily have to go all Ike Turner on her.

As a fan I couldn't get behind a female face being champion. I also couldn't get behind a male face beating up a woman for a championship, I just wouldn't want to watch it either way.

Also injuries happen during matches and WWE would get a crapload of bad publicity if anything went wrong.

Totally unrealistic. Girls can't fight, they don't have muscles.

Well, Chyna did become the #1 contender to the world title in 1999 with an underhanded victory over HHH, and no one went crazy, and people seemed to act the same as if it were a somewhat established mid-carder that just got a new title shot that you thought the champion was going to win but with a hard fought battle, like a "ok..ok..same old..same old...hope it's a good match" kind of deal.
So Chyna came the closest, and I guess that scenerio showed that it could be believable if done right. Chyna's highest level was achieving upper mid-card status. It actually seemed like a down grade for her to start competing with the women, you forgot she was a woman. That's because in pro wrestling you have people no-selling fire and shooting each other with lightning. I don't think Chyna was ever at the point of being world championship material, but, I do think she could have been if WWE truly wanted her to be. Superior mic skills are a must, and I didn't think Chyna had a stone cold or Rock level mic skills, and if WWE DID consider her for a possible world champion, she would have been in competition with Jericho, and Jericho would have gotten the nod 1st due to mic skills and charisma.

what if the woman did not win clean would that be more acceptable?

what if the woman did not win clean would that be more acceptable? No. Because you then you have the issue of getting it off her. You cant just have a guy brutalise her because people would be up in arms about it. And if you have her lose it in similarly unclean fashion, then you wonder what was the point of having her win it in the first place?

You'd basically have another Hornswoggle case of winning via shenanigans, and then handing over the title "so she doesn't get hurt". And we all know that did wonders for the Cruiserweight Championship. {Spoiler}Excuse me, the NOW DEFUNCT Cruiserweight Championship.

Ha! I've got more of a problem with a woman beating up a man on TV than a man beating a woman. At least the latter is believeable.

Beth has landed some decent offense on Punk and Kofi before. But its also believable that a guy like Del Rio would decimate a Diva, and people just wouldnt want to see that in a title match. I would like to see Beth Phoenix have a competitive match with one of the smaller heels in the company, but not for anything like a mens title. Her match with Santino is decent for the 2 minutes it is on for. But again, Santino doesnt land a huge amount of offense. And you know there would be a lot of people complaining if a Diva took the same amount of damage in a match that a guy would.

Do a powerbomb or a suplex or a nasty looking submission, but you don't have to punch her in the face. And it wotks for heels because they still have the ethic of "not hitting a woman" but they're bending it a litlle with "I'm not TECHNICALLY hitting her". Get what I mean?
