Now this thread by nature is gonna be very subjective and opinion based, but I thought it would be fun. Hopefully we can stay civil lol.
So I was watching the Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin match from Wrestlemania 13 earlier, and as I was watching the match it occurred to me.
As much as I love the Bret/Austin submission match, I love their match at Survivor Series 96 even more. I think its more technically sound, and at the time it was such a fresh match up.
I'm not upset that the WM 13 match is more famous, by all rights it should be, its too historically significant not to be.
I love both matches alot, but I love the SS 96 match more.
So what are some other examples? I have several more in mind, but I'd rather let you guys discuss it first.
So have at it!

HBK/Jericho. I thought their Unsanctioned match at Unforgiven 2008 was better than their Wrestlemania XIX match.

Benoit/HHH/HBK (Backlash 2004) >>> Benoit/HHH/HBK (WM XX) Good Choice Diesel! Another one for me, and I have made it very well known in the past. Bret Hart vs. Davey Boy Smith. In Your House 5 > Summerslam 92 In fact I don't like their Summerslam match all that much. Thats just me.

Triple H/Shawn Michaels most famous match together is arguably Shawn's return match at Summerslam 2002, but the match they had on Raw at the end of 2003 (I think) for the world title is my personal favourite of theirs.
Cena/Orton probably will be remembered best for their Iron Man match, but I think their match at Summerslam 07 blows it, or any other match they've had together, out of the water.
I prefer the Lesnar/Angle Iron man match to their Wrestlemania XIX one, which I think is their most famous match.

I was going to bring up those two and nominate thier match from SummerSlam 2003 but I need to re-watch it. I remember Brock weak from having his ankle worked on gave Angle an awesome one legged F5.

Another one from me, and this one may be controversial.
Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels
Survivor Series 92 > Wrestlemania 12
::puts up flame sheilds, and puts on blindfold to avoid seeing rolling eyes::
Honestly though, I just love SSeries 92 match more. The iron man just dragged on and on, and other than the ending, all that stood out to me was the timekeeper getting kicked in the face.

Taker vs. HBK at Bad Blood 97. It's a damn shame that match is gonna be overshadowed by "spot, false finish, spot, false finish" that was HBK's retirement match.

I thought their Summerslam rematch was also better than their 'Mania encounter, but the Iron Man just shades it as best of the trilogy for me.

Cena/HBK at Mania 23, completely overshadowed by Cena/HBK in London. Though some people could argue that the London match is more famous, the bottom line is that the Mania 23 match was the main event of the biggest PPV of the year.

I'm surprised nobody has said Bret vs. Owen at Wrestlemania X. Fantastic match, that was somehow topped in the summer of '94. Too bad only few Average Joe's say that.

I much prefer the Owen/Bret Hart Summerslam Cage match over their WM X match.
I actually saw the Ricky Steamboat/Randy SAvage match/angle that set up their WM III match on Youtube and it is definately better.

Rock/Austin. I guess the Wrestlemania 17 match is their most famous considering the scale of it, but I always preferred the WM 19 encounter.

On that note, I hate how a lot of fans flat-out ignore that match. It doesn't help that it was on a pretty crappy Mania and Michael Cole spoiled the result, but that match is an amazingly entertaining brawl. Out of all their matches, it's probably the most fun to watch. Plus no stupid ending.

The IYH match is absolutely fantastic and definitely the better of the two.

Rock/HHH ladder match for the IC Title in '98, was better than any of their main event matches that came later on.

I always prefered the HBK/Angle match at Vengeance to the one they had at Wrestlemania XXI.

Rock/HHH ladder match for the IC Title in '98, was better than any of their main event matches that came later on. I've tried watching that match several times and it too damn slow paced and boring. I dont think i've ever watched it all in one sitting yet. Now this is a totally biased opinion (and I never saw any of thier ppv matches last year as of yet) but my favorite Kane/Undertaker match is thier one from RAW summer of '98 where Kane wins the #1 contendership. Not only cuz Kane actually won but Vince and Austin were on commentary going at each other and was quite hilarious. Heres another forgotten feud........ RVD/Brock Lesnar (Vengeance) >>> RVD/Brock Lesnar (KOTR)

Hogan vs. Andre at Wrestlemania III. The match is terrible, but when people think of Hogan, it's this match and his slamming Andre. Hell, it's probably Andre's most famous match, too.
