There is an indy promotion I'm familiar with that steals ideas, names, etc. from WWE all the time. Most recently they've started promoting a show entitled 'SummerSlam' along with the old WWF SummerSlam logo. I want to keep this as short as possible and not name names on the board, but who can I contact from WWE to send them a link to the website or promotional images? This got me nowhere: www.wwe.com/help/contactus

It's not a true WWE rip off until they've had a fake Doink.

My local Indy fed had a reverse decision the week after Mike Chioda first did it with the Miz and John Cena's WWE title match on RAW.

What are you trying to tell inform the WWE about some indy fed calling their show Summerslam? I doubt their legal department will care about an Indy fed. Now if they were to promote the show on PPV and try to pass it off as a WWE show than there would be trouble.

Yeah, your email will probably stay as an unread bold in whomever's inbox it reaches. Anyway, these are just guys trying to feed themselves and it truly is causing no harm to the WWE whatsoever. I would just mind my own business and let them do whatever.

I'm a musician and I'm trying to feed myself. Does that mean I can call myself Nickelback and play a song I call "Photograph"?

When Pro Wrestling Guerrilla did their "Kurt Russellmania" show in 2010, WWE told them to cut that out. So the 2011 show became "Kurt Russellreunion II", and the Russellmania shirts and DVDs were retroactively renamed to "Russellreunion I"

I wouldn't sweat it. The WWE doesn't care that much. I mean just about every former WWE wrestlers uses there WWE them in the indies. There only a problem when they use it on TV, try and sell it as a PPV, or release it on DVD. There are 100s of Doinks played out there. Some really horrible ones. But WWE never does anything about it. One because so many different people play it. Most never make enough to worry about it. And most never on a DVD, PPV, or TV release. What are you trying to tell inform the WWE about some indy fed calling their show Summerslam? I doubt their legal department will care about an Indy fed. I guess because the way it sounds. Plus the T-shirt and DVD releases but really it is easier for them to change it but honest they could won that fight. Because the WWE has no case. But the money to spend is courts just an hassile.

My question to regular OP is why bother, unless you work with the WWE,why would you care that some indy is using WWE ppv names, themes, etc?

I'm a musician and I'm trying to feed myself. Does that mean I can call myself Nickelback and play a song I call "Photograph"? Yes. Tribute acts are common.

I get the point you were trying to make, jadison, but yeah, cover bands and things like that are.....shockingly common in the music world.

Now if they were to promote the show on PPV and try to pass it off as a WWE show than there would be trouble. I believe the way trademark law works is if the company owning the trademarks (of characters, show names, etc.) is aware of someone using said trademarks without license then they have to enforce the trademark -- usually a cease-and-desist letter from a lawyer, followed by a lawsuit if they don't stop using it. True stories: My father's old company (a small business) used an animated rabbit likeness that looked and acted nothing like Bugs Bunny on billboards and commercials many years ago. Disney sent a letter threatening a big, expensive lawsuit if he didn't stop. He did, because just going to court would have cost more than it was worth. There was also a local radio DJ where I lived back in the day who did an oldies show and had a dead-on Wolfman Jack impersonation. He called himself "Wolfie." Did a ton of commercials in that voice too, ending with "tell 'em Wolfie sent you." Somehow Wolfman's legal team learned of it and sent a cease-and-desist letter. So he kept doing it and just stopped calling himself Wolfie -- don't recall for sure, but I don't think he used any name at all, just the imitation voice. They filed suit about 2 weeks later and he dropped the whole act immediately and Wolfman's people dropped the matter. Point is, if you inform WWE they will have to act or else basically anyone can use their trademarks because they didn't diligently protect them -- they can't pick and choose, legally, which to enforce and which to let slide because it's not a big deal, because if they let it slide it legally amounts to them dropping claim to the trademark altogether.

It's not a true WWE rip off until they've had a fake Doink. Every indy in existence has a Doink. I firmly believe that.
