I love how the news is trying to make this out to a big catastophe, but even though an earthquake is normally felt in the West Coast, it's not impossible than an earthquake can be felt in the East Coast.
It's the same thing when they were blowing the "dead birds, dead fish," stuff out of proportion earlier this year. Things have happened before, a 5.8 earthquake hit in 1879, abot 114 year ago. Maybe if woke up again for a few minutes?

At 1:51 PM Eastern Daylight Time on August 23, an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 5.8 occurred 35 miles/56 Km northwest of Richmond, Virginia .
The location is such that a tsunami IS NOT EXPECTED. However, in coastal areas of intense shaking, locally generated tsunamis can be triggered by underwater landslides. This will be the only WCATWC message issued for this event.
The location and magnitude are based on preliminary information. Further information will be issued by the United States Geological Survey or the appropriate regional seismic network.

loleastcoast [/troll] No, but seriously, I hope everybody's ok. Samoa Joe's right though. LA had like a 5.8 quake like 11 years ago real early in the morning and I slept through it. Again, though, its interesting to read how equivalent quakes will have much more of an effect on this coast than out west, due to the nature of the ground. 5.8 here feels a lot stronger. Granted, yes, where I was it wasn't anything big, just 5-7 seconds of rattling, so any West Coaster wouldn't have minded a thing. Still, we still get to laugh at you guys any time you see snow, or a thermometer dropping below 50 F. Snow and cold weather's the # 1 enemy of beach boobage and short shorts, so yeah, we get a little annoyed when it gets chilly.

That earthquake was the first time I saw both "5.9" AND "Impact" in the same sentence.

I'm sorry, I just have to say how amusing I find it how people on the East Coast, particularly on the Northeast Coast, have been reacting to natural phenomenon outside of their comfort zone of hurricanes and blizzards. First the tornadoes a couple months back, and now this, in all honesty relatively weak earthquake. You guys are funny.

Hurricane is not exactly in the NE comfortzone. Well it is certainly something they are more use to than tornadoes and earthquakes. Besides, my definition of "NE" is very loose. Basically for me, anything from Virginia and north.

The earthquakes were so bad, Matt Hardy was last seen walking in a straight line.
