Hmm. In Pokemon, Magnitude 6 is a love tap. In real life, it hits like a brick.

What's pissing me off the most is that news coverage is STILL going on and I'm missing General Hospital!

That earthquake was the first time I saw both "5.9" AND "Impact" in the same sentence. Brilliant! And yeah, didn't feel anything over here....

I gotta admit, The news coverage is really blowing this up lol. Here, about 8,000,000,000 people have called in. All any of them have said is basically "shit shook a little." 2 hours of news coverage for that.

I definitely felt it. It was like a ripple effect. Maybe it was because we were higher up than most, but it was a little scary to be honest. I've never been in an earthquake before.

I can now cross off "Experience an earthquake" from my bucket list. We got it pretty good in DC. I can't imagine being in a really big one, I'm good with that quick one. Scary stuff.

There are people here who've reported feeling something... I've been awake and attentive all day, and I've felt nothing.

Didn't feel anything of the sort in West Virginia, or at least if it happened I didn't notice it. Same. Some of my friends say they felt it but I didn't feel anything.

I find it a little irritating people can't understand being excited about something you've never experienced before.

*condescendingly* "You and your third dimension."
"What about it?"
"Oh nothing, it's cute. We have five-"
"THOUSAND."
"Yes, five thousand."

loleastcoast [/troll] No, but seriously, I hope everybody's ok. Samoa Joe's right though. LA had like a 5.8 quake like 11 years ago real early in the morning and I slept through it. Again, though, its interesting to read how equivalent quakes will have much more of an effect on this coast than out west, due to the nature of the ground. 5.8 here feels a lot stronger. Granted, yes, where I was it wasn't anything big, just 5-7 seconds of rattling, so any West Coaster wouldn't have minded a thing. Still, we still get to laugh at you guys any time you see snow, or a thermometer dropping below 50 F. Yep, the ground makes a HUGE difference in what an earthquake is like. People don't tend to think about that much. Comparing the numbers is helpful but not necessarily a good way to determine how bad or destructive an earthquake is. I do feel for you guys though. You're not really prepared for that. I mean, everything in my house is bolted down and strapped to walls and stuff, but I don't imagine that people out there go through the effort, do they? Although I am finding it hilarious how the news is making this out like it's the end of the world, and everybody I've heard from is just saying "meh, it shook a little bit".

I live in Pittsburgh and didn't feel a thing. So I was really confused when I checked Facebook and saw my friends posting about an earthquake. I got back to my apartment a few minutes ago and everything appears to be just as I left it.

I love that people on the east coast make fun of Californians for being "weather pussies", etc, then you guys finally have a moderate earthquake that didn't really damage anything and can't shut up about it. :-p

The reality as far as I can see is everyone found it mildly interesting and went back to doing whatever. My son likely didn't even dip out of his instance on Wow for it lol.

It felt like someone bumped my cubicle wall at work really hard and I thought that was weird, then about 5 seconds later it felt like something was shaking my whole building for about 5-10 seconds. Everyone was looking around like what the hell happened. Then some guy came out of his office and said we just experienced an earthquake because he had been in one before, and everyone was like, oh that's what it feels like!
They evacuated the court house and a few other buildings nearby, but not ours. I work on the 13th floor so I clearly felt it. Some on the ground floor didn't even notice.

I'm not surprised how overblown this is. The media tends to make things seem a lot worse when it hits the northeast than when something similar hits anywhere else.
