It's not about the destination, it's about the journey kids.

Thanks, that was incredibly helpful. You're welcome, you gotta be patient man, that's the one thing that the internet needs to learn, to cut down on the need for immediacy.

Round 1 is about to begin.
Here is our first order of business though ...
Each of the 14 contestants needs to send me a "category"/"theme" suggestion of their own before we post the first round's category. I promised a new concept or two to this particular game, and this will be the first of said new concepts. The advice: just make sure it's something you feel you would excel at. It's more than likely going to come in handy for around half of you. HOWEVER, do not make it too obscure and outside of reason. It will get overruled if it's something we the judges and hosts deem too ridiculously unfair for everyone to participate in. For example, if you were a music buff, you could say, "GRUNGE!" and that would be totally fine. If you were a music buff and nominated "Songs by Captain and Tennille NOT Released as Singles," then you're getting the thumbs down. Don't get too excited: what you're nominating won't be used as a particular round's theme necessarily. But it does have high potential to come in handy at some point. It could also be your own demise. *evil laugh donated by Dr. Otto*
Also, as preview before this first round goes live ...
When we find out what our first three themes are, I will post them one at a time and have people send their submissions. *Each contestant will survive the first three rounds before our first elimination.* I always feel bad when the first person is eliminated, but we will at least get to see that person participate in THREE rounds before it has to happen. After Round 1 is posted and picks sent in, judges will judge them, and we will have the results revealed. We move on to Round 2, rinse, and repeat, through Round 3 where the first Bottom Three will be revealed.
Here's the (hopefully) fun twist. EACH contestant gets to use "STAR POWER" during ONE of the first three rounds. This means that their total ranking score for the round will be doubled for the round they choose to roll the dice on. Obviously, you have to send me notification when you send your pick in for the round that you are using STAR POWER. The catch is that they will not know what the first three rounds are collectively. It will be round-by-round so the contestants will have to choose when to pop that Star Power on a round-by-round basis. Will you feel confident in the Round 1 category? Or do you feel like you'd rather wait it out and see what Rounds 2 and/or 3 have in store? Only time will tell. That's part of the fun.
Now, PM me your personalized category/theme suggestions and we'll get Round 1 under way.

Umm, so practically no one has turned in their category/themes yet. But I will still be taking them. If I don't get all 14 of them, it really won't hurt the game, just potentially the players who don't turn them in ... potentially, that is. With that out of the way ... -------------------------------------------------------------------- [glow=gray,2,300]WELCOME TO ROUND ONE![/glow]CHARACTER CATCHPHRASESThis is a NON-MEDIUM-SPECIFIC round. (Choices can come from any form of pop culture.)Alright gang, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to select select an example of a character's catchphrase being used. You can select video clips from YouTube (or whatever legal link you so choose) or if your example comes in another form (ahem, image, for some that are thinking outside the box) that works too. We're not trying to confine you in the game, so understand that the only requirement of your pick this round is that a character's catchphrase is present in the choice you make. Set-ups and/or context going along with it is totally acceptable. You submit your picks to pegasuswarrior and Cageking via PM (both of us just in case one of us were to go missing in action for an annoying period of time so that the other one could pick up the slack). We'll sort it out, send it to the judges, and all that. I'm going to try to PM when each round is up, so you can just reply and I can keep a unified "subject heading" so I can keep everything straight that way. PLEASE format your picks for the round in the following manner: Character name -- "Pop culture show, movie, whatever, that it came from" This will make it so much easier to copy and paste into an Excel file for results. Thanks in advance. If I've left something out, please ask. It wasn't on purpose. Don't forget "STAR POWER." This will double your score for one of the first three rounds when you choose to use it. You will not know what the next two rounds will be until each round is judged, then results are revealed. Also, I'm working on a "reward" (of sorts) for whichever player is at the top of the leaderboard after these first three rounds. This helps keep people trying hard, even though they may feel comfortable and complacent if they feel they have a humongous distance between themselves and the bottom three head-to-head-to-head elimination. Looking forward to this. If it's anything like FAN Idol, we'll all have a lot of fun with this type of stuff.

It says you haven't opened it yet just wondering if you got it or if I need to send it again. I titled the message "FAN World Series of Pop Culture theme"

Peg. I was thinking we probably should sent out PMs to all the players so they know the game has started, just in case they don't notice.

I plan on PM'ing each person when a new round is posted. Already sent out Round One PMs. (Again, that's the plan. I hopefully won't miss a step and forget.) I now have 9 responses to the theme/category suggestions. (Got yours, Big Brad.) Gosh, the 9 I've gotten so far are some super sweet ideas too. This gunna get good. And already a pick or two submitted for Round 1. Methinks I like the quick response times.

Got mine sent in. One of the many perks of being unemployed is the ability to efficiently participate in internet tournaments.
