Well, folks, here comes your FAN IDOL off-season. Here comes maximum fandom at its “fandomiest.” Here comes …
As the Forum Games staple FAN Idol takes a rest of a few months, Scavenger: World Series of Pop Culture is here to see who is the most versatile of the versatile. The WSOPC will open the doors for a full-on onslaught of pop culture fan-ocity while Fan Idol enthusiasts have a chance to renew themselves and get revved up for Season VII beginning in the (Western Hemisphere or Northern Hemisphere, however that works) spring after this game concludes.
The game will feature round-by-round themes in which contestants find their own preferential choices that fit the theme and then the panel of judges ranks each pick in each round. Eliminations ensue until there is only one winner.
An example of a round's "theme" could be something like, "Monumental Kiss." The contestants would find their best example of this in any realm of pop culture (TV, Movie, Sports, Music Video, internet meme, whatever) and they send Cageking and me--the hosts--the video links. Like in the FAN Idol game, I (or he) will anonymously send the clips minus the competitors' names to the panel of judges and so on and so forth.
We're going to feed contestants themes in the realm of sports, music, movies, tv, general pop culture, technology, etc., and some themes don't have to be medium-specific; that is, they could come from any realm of pop culture. Then, on the flipside, we could have something like "Great Sports Broadcast Moments" and that, of course, would be something pop culture medium-specific (in this case, sports, obviously).
Our two judges so far are irontyger and MGH. If you swear upon your life that you are not overly biased and can hang with the versatility of this game, we can use another judge to kickstart things. Co-hosts are CageKing and myself (because there is so much typing and game management that has to go on in these games for just one person). As hosts, we can fill in from time-to-time to help out with judging if need be.
Other than that, we’ll just need contestant sign-ups and we’re off and running. Tell your Off-Topic friends on the boards to sign up for what should be some uber marking out for one another’s selections. A game like this is just a chance to showcase what makes the board’s members’ mark-bombs explode and the competition is just the vehicle to keep that moving forward. But as we’ve seen with FAN Idol, there is much much reward outside of just competing. It’s really a big community share session.
All contestants will have the opportunity to compete in three rounds of competition before any eliminations commence. After Round 3, we will announce our first set of eliminations and procede round-by-round from there. We had "sing offs" in FAN Idol, but we're going to try a different twist or two for gameplay here just to see how it works and how everyone likes it. This has potential to mega fun (and heck, I'm not even getting to play!) so I hope you all enjoy this. That's what I'm here to try to do as host.
