Put me in the camp that hopes they go back to a more GTA III era style game.
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed GTA IV, but it definitely lacked alot of the fun of the GTA III games. I hope the keep the realistic look of GTA IV, but make the story more fun and laid back. San Andreas was way more fun then IV, and because of that I got a lot more play out of it then IV

eh, I don't really want GTA V to be goofy. I really enjoyed the serious tone of the game. If I want to play a silly game, I pop in SC2(a game which I also love). I want them to be two series trying two different things.

Even if it doesn't get silly again, I want it to have at least a bit of variety compared to IV, i.e. not every mission has to involve a shoot-out with enemies to show off the spiffy new means of shooting.

Hopefully "Saints Row 2/the third" has lit a fire under their arse and made them go back to the fun/Silly GTA of the PS2 days. Absolutely this. I will always have a soft spot for the GTA series as it's the game that got me back into video games. However, I have to admit that Saints Row has absolutely kicked GTA's ass with the past few games. GTA practically perfected the genre, and when Saints Row was first announced... I was actually a bit annoyed that it had ripped off GTA. But with IV being so damn serious in comparison to the ret of the GTA series, Saints Row has far surpassed it. I'm not asking for dildo copters, midget punting, or hoverboards.... I'm just asking they put more emphasis on making the game an outlaw's playground rather than having a character that does just enough bad to get by, but basically tries to play by the rules, as that's the feeling I got from IV (and to a lesser extent, San Andreas).

Sweet! Now the question is, 2012 or 2013? If it is 2012, it'll be a fall/holiday release as Max Payne 3 is their early release for 2012. If it is 2013, then it'll be in early 2013 most likely. The thing I'm worried about, though, is, open world games have changed quite a bit since GTA4. I mean we'll have had the inFAMOUS games, Prototype, both Batman games(though Arkham Asylum was only semi open world), Assassin's Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations, Just Cause 2, Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, and Saint's Row 2 and 3 all by the time GTA5 drops. That's a lot of change to the open world formula. GTA5 is going to have a lot to live up to. It's going to honestly have to be more than just the typical GTA game, in my opinion. Well, considering that Rockstar made Red Dead Redemption and L.A Noire it's not like they've been out of the loop since GTA IV. I do hope that it has some significant improvements though, because GTA IV fell a little bit flat IMO. Still a great game, but it just didn't have many improvements over San Andreas other than the obvious graphical enhancements.

I just hope it plays better than GTA4. Saints Row got the controls thing down pat and GTA4 missed the mark there. Also please less chase missions. This, 100%.

I don't mind the protagonist having a bit of depth to his character, but I would appreciate it if we get a sort of feeling of achievement at the end like with Tommy and CJ (where we became made men).

I'm wondering what city it'll take us to next. The "V" looks like a dollar bill... maybe a Washington, D.C. type city?
I think doing something with Tokyo would be cool too.

I always imagined it would be cool to have a GTA USA...three/four cities in the US where you had to travel by commercial flight.

Still a great game, but it just didn't have many improvements over San Andreas other than the obvious graphical enhancements. But Rockstar North hasn't made a full game since GTA4. As already said, they helped Rockstar San Diego a little bit, but Red Dead was pretty much all San Diego. And Team Bondi, with the help of some Rockstar employees, made L.A. Noire. So just because Rockstar as a company has released games since GTA4 doesn't mean jack. We haven't seen anything solely from Rockstar North since the GTA4 saga.

There is something that I do hope happens, but this'll be unlikely.
And that is GTA V having a Wii U version. It would be the first time GTA has ever been on a non-portable Nintendo console.

LA Noire was also a VERY different kind of game from other open world games like GTA. It was more a point-and-click style adventure game in an opened up world than anything.
Rockstar is just a publishing label owned by Take Two. They have a bunch of different studios that all make different kinds of games. The "Rockstar" logo is more branding than indication of quality.

I love Grand Theft Auto 4, and maybe that's why I'm not too hyped for this - expecting more in the vain of the GTA3 games out of it, which I'm not as big on.

So that's why they decided to wait on the news until today, instead of announcing it on the 10th Anniversary of GTAIII. Karma, 'tis a lovely biatch.

The new game should be based in an entirely original city, not a real world knockoff.
