So, about two months out, here is what Wrestlemania appears to be boiling down to: Andre vs Hogan, Savage vs Steamboat, Junkfood vs Race, Piper vs Adonis (if Piper loses, he retires, if Adonis loses, he goes straight--just kidding), Hernandez vs Haynes and Duggan vs Kimala. Rumors still abound about Vince McMahon actually wrestling, but I won't believe it until it's confirmed. A Minneapolis TV station reported this past week that McMahon would wrestle Jesse Ventura on the big show. I believe a tag match will be either Martel-Zenk winning from the Hart Foundation--or something to the effect of the Bulldogs or Martel-Zenk teaming with Santana against Hart-Neidhart-Danny Davis.

With Hogan as champ, turn Andre the Giant into a villain and Shea Stadium won't be big enough to hold this promotion. As a kid circa 1985, it wasn't even conceivable to me as a fan that they could be headed for a Hogan/Andre showdown. Was it really this obvious to everyone so early on? I think Andre hinted in a promo that he was interested in facing Hogan eventually. All American Wrestling - 2/12/84: Andre the Giant defeated Charlie Fulton & Butcher Vachon in a handicap match at 3:13 by pinning both men at the same time after throwing Fulton into Vachon; after the bout, Gene Okerlund interviewed Andre, with Andre saying he wouldn't want to challenge new WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan, as he doesn't want to be a champion, and is happy as the giant, but may change his mind in the future

As already reported on the net, the Legion of Doom, Hawk and Animal, lost the WWF Tag Titles in Hartford on Tuesday night to the makeshift team of Irwin R. Shyster & Ted DiBiase. Angle time. Jack Tunney announced that the Natural Disasters had monopolized the title shots and gave the new heel tag team a chance at the straps. Sherri Martel was at ringside during the match and distracted the referee long enough for the Natural Disasters to interfere in the match, helping IRS pin Hawk for the win. Speculation varies that the LOD are in fact bailing out of the WWF, or that they will regain the titles at WrestleMania (afterall, with Ric Flair winning, and Roddy Piper losing, Vince will have to have a face title win to make the crowd happy.)

The only key newcomer, as reported here last week, was Sherri Martel, in the role of babyface manager to "The Sullivan Brothers--Kevin & Evad--Dave spelled backwards (Evad Sullivan being The Equalizer in a babyface role as Kevin's younger brother), who will feud with the Nasty Boys. The idea was Sherri would be used to counteract the presence of Missy Hyatt, but as it turns out, that won't be the case.

Even more daring, and perhaps even foolhardy, is McMahon's opening up a third promotion in Japan, perhaps as early as April. Satoru Sayama, the original Tiger Mask, will be making a triumphant return to the mat on 3/25 at Madison Square Garden under the name "The Tiger." Sayama will be used as the top native draw when McMahon and Hisashi Shinma team up to promote not only in the Orient, but perhaps throughout Asia, the South Pacific, and Australia/New Zealand.

Have no idea who Black Blade is, but I suppose it could be Black Bart.

As was mentioned by someone (sorry for the no-name), a new heel by the name of Black Hood will debut in WCW shortly. This will be Master Blaster Steel, managed by Kevin Sullivan.

The hell happened with this? my guess is they got the names mixed around. Black Blood debuted around this time. that was Billy Jack Haynes under a hood managed by Kevin Sullivan. Master Blaster Steel aka Kevin Nash wound up debuting as Oz, who was also managed by Sullivan, except Sullivan was under a mask as The Wizard

Originally Ventura was supposed to wrestle Sammartino on the [Wrestlemania II] card, but Ventura is in very poor health and his doctors demanded he no longer wrestle. For insurance reasons, Jesse can't wrestle anymore (although I wouldn't be surprised to see him on a smaller show with no hype--obviously he can't appear on something of this magnitude, however)

Giant Baba, Seiji Sakaguchi and J.J. Dillon (WWF) officially announced the line-up for the 4/13 Tokyo Dome "Japan and USA Wrestling Summit" card. The main event, which appeared to be etched in stone a few weeks back, is still not officially determined. It will still most likely be Hulk Hogan vs Terry Gordy (billed for the WWF title, which may nor may not be a significant point), however some last minute maneuvering from the WWF side just may change it to Hogan vs Dusty Rhodes.

Besides Andre and Randy Culley gone for a while, Roddy Piper and Jesse Ventura will both be gone for six weeks or so doing different movie roles. Roddy Piper is in a Hal Needham flick, while Jesse will co-star in an Arnold Schwarzenegger "Conan" movie.

As I mentioned last week, Steve Austin has signed with WCW. He'll be coming with (Rockin') Robin Smith as his manager/valet.

Tugboat Thomas just didn't sail too well with the fans in the WWF. I guess even the WWF fans don't want to cheer two hooting idiots. The WWF has officially changed his name to Bronto - I don't know what the gimmick involves yet - and is going to set up a program between him and Dino Bravo.

As a further cure to the ratings problem they are facing, WCW is apparently considering bringing in Yokozuna and Sid and the like.

Hulk Hogan vs. Yokozuna for the WWF Title (New Japan referee Tiger Hattori will be special referee)

Hogan's missing the recent MSG card may have been due to his recent filming of a TV pilot. If, by chance the pilot is decent enough to be made into a series, the Hulk can turn his back on wrestling and who knows -- will they put Backlund back in charge? Since the new schedules have already been released, probably the earliest the thing can debut would be January. If Hulk was to get his own series one would expect he'd hit it almost as big as Mr. T has.

Vince is going to use Andre the Giant's knee as an angle. Earthquake clipped Andre's knee and pummelled him a bit on one of the syndies a little while ago. Andre's going to "have surgery" and then return to fight EQ and Typhoon alongside Jake Roberts.

By the way, when Race was originally contacted about coming to the WWF, the idea was to give him the outfit Jesse Barr is now wearing as Jimmy Jack Funk. He was to wear the Lone Ranger mask and carry the noose and be called "Hangman" Harley Race. He declined to do it so instead, after much debate he became "Handsome" Harley Race once again.
