Here's how Starrcade shapes up thus far. The Sting vs Black Scorpion main event will be a cage match with the title against the mask, Lex Luger vs Stan Hansen will be a bullrope match for the U.S. title, Ric Flair & Arn Anderson vs. Doom will be a North St. Louis Street Fight for the WCW tag team titles and the eight-team tournament will be for the newly created International tag team titles (which will replace the U.S. tag team titles I suppose.)

It's been reported just about everywhere that Roddy Piper will be turning heel and face Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania. This much I do know. The Fox special will be late February which is awfully late to shoot a big angle since Wrestlemania is just four weeks later. Piper will be working as a babyface against Mr. Perfect in January and February, but everyone expects him to turn heel, even though to be done effectively the turn should be no later than mid-January. The other half speculated on Hulk Hogan vs. Mean Mark, but that requires Mark to get over huge in not very much time and while he certainly has potential for the future, he didn't exactly get over huge in the NWA.

That explains a lot of Piper's hostility on commentary towards Warrior at that time. I think it's safe to say Mean Mark definitely got over huge in not very much time. I certainly would have bought him as a viable opponent for Hogan by Mania.

I certainly would have bought him as a viable opponent for Hogan by Mania. I think had they gone this route, everything would have fallen apart quite quickly. If they do go through with a heel Piper, what happens if he still ends up being injured and unable to compete at WM causing a top match to fall apart near the last minute? Also, by the time WM came around, UT was still going on a very, very slow rise up the roster; by that point, he was still a bit directionless with no feuds or programs. He didn't really start that until after his WM squash against Snuka. If they hotshot him up the ranks before then? Hogan beats him at WM and the UT character is pretty much done. Also, this inevitably means the Savage/Liz reunion doesn't happen the way it did. Nor does the Warrior/UT feud that sends Jake back to the dark side. Or Piper's best match in years the next year against Bret.

Don't know anything else for sure although rumors are running wild about Jim Hellwig returning. The WWF mag hints at an Ultimate surprise coming and even mentioned Warrior in a dream match sequence regarding Bob Backlund.

There have been talks between Vince McMahon and Bruce Hart about opening Calgary up as a farm system for Titan and for Hart to train new wrestlers since the lack of new talent is one of the problems that has kept the gates down

Story on Del Wilkes (Patriot in Global) is that he'll probably wind up [in the WWF] when they come up with a gimmick for him.

On the Wrestling Hotline, Jim Ross brought up several names in regards to coming to WCW. He called Ultimate Warrior coming in "a big longshot," said that Terry Gordy was negotiating, that he hoped Steve Williams would come in if Gordy did, that Great Muta was probably for an extended tour in 1992 and also brought up Scott Norton's name.

Bob Orton to return [to WWF] early next year.
Short but sweet. Where do you see someone like Bob Orton fitting into the WWF landscape in 1990?

I don't see Orton lasting very long. I'm sure there wouldv'e been lots of references to his past with Piper.

When the new year begins, or shortly thereafter, Titan will begin running four shows nightly. Expect a dozen or so mid-level types to be brought in to help fill out the cards. Names pretty well confirmed as being on the way--just waiting for a start date--include Scott Hall, Brad Rheingans, Ron Bass, Tom Magee and Steve DiSalvo.

September 24, 1990 The suggestion was made to Flair to take November off and get this, come back as a Roman Gladiator gimmick. Sadly that's not newz~, Flair's confirmed this a million times.

Who knows if he would've still been around by the time the clique came to be. May not have been around to show up on Nitro in the crowd, & maybe wouldn't have ever seen the nWo form. Could've completely changed the history of both WWF/E & WCW.

Big Bubba Rogers tentatively scheduled to start at the 1/26 TV taping in Hershey, PA, although for legal reasons his debut may be held back. It has to be determined if Titan can use the gimmick or if they'll have to create a new one for him.
January 21, 1991
Television tapings took place on 1/7 in Huntsville, AL and 1/8 in Chattanooga, TN. A masked man came down and interfered in matches beating up on heels during squash matches of Rick Martel, Earthquake and Demolition and left the heels laying after headbutts. The masked man was Brutus Beefcake, however the angles were said to be so pathetic that they won't air. It is expected that at some point Beefcake will return to wrestling and the gimmick will be that Jack Tunney will rule that since he has a steel plate in his head (from the accident), that he has to wear a rubberized mask to keep him from using his lethal headbutts. In reality, his doctors have forbid him from wrestling without a protective mask because one decent fall or potato blow to the face would collapse his entire face. Most wrestlers seem to be against the idea of his coming back because it's far too dangerous and his foes will have to take it so easy on him that the matches will be poor.

Wrestlemania figures to be something like this: Hogan vs. Warrior, Savage vs. Rhodes (or maybe a mixed tag), Piper vs. Brown, DiBiase vs. Roberts for the million dollar belt, Bossman vs. Akeem, Hart Foundation vs. Rockers, Martel vs. Beefcake

Anyway, two months away--and it looks like Wrestlemania will go something like this: Andre vs. Hogan for the title (this one is for sure); Savage vs. Steamboat for the Intercontinental title (this one is also for sure, my guess is it will be in a cage); Hart Foundation vs. Martel & Zenk for the tag team title (this is planned like this, but a lot of variables--specifically how Neidhart does in court this week--may effect the decision to give Hart-Neidhart the tag belts in the first place); Piper vs. Adonis (Roddy's last match, supposedly); Billy Jack Haynes vs. Hercules Hernandez (possibly a chain match); Junkyard Dog vs. Harley Race and Butch Reed vs. Tito Santana. Danny Davis will fit in somewhere as he's been hyped too heavily over the past few months not to have a key role. I've heard, but haven't had it confirmed, that they will announce Davis' referee's contract expires April 1 or something, so this would be his final match as a ref.
