With John Cena turning 35-years-old, the talk has been that Vince McMahon is already looking for his next top babyface.
Through out the years, Vince has always handpicked his top babyfaces. They include Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H and now John Cena.
Vince is now 66 years old, and still has a hand in virtually every aspect of the company. But it is expected that he will be delegating more responsibilities to Triple H and Stephanie as time goes on. Many have speculated that the next top baby face to carry the torch in WWE could be Vince's final handpicked face of WWE.

If they believe that Austin was "handpicked" to be the next top BABYFACE, they're crazy. They probably thought he was a heel that had main event potential, but the babyface thing happened almost entirely by accident.

When the article says "handpicked", I think they mean Vince will pick a guy who's over enough, has the skills and also is something he feels he can market well. Austin was chosen by both the fans and the front office- in contrast to someone like RVD in 2002, who was crazy over but was also frowned on by management due to his drug issues, and Tom Magee who Vince thought had the potential to be the next Hogan despite utterly sucking and the audience not caring about him.

Shouldn't they have been trying to build the next Cena for the past five years instead of waiting until the guy's bordering on being an afterthought?

That is one of the strangest groups of I've seen put together in one sentence and compared to each other. That's like saying the best face tag teams of all time are The Hart Foundation , Legion Of Doom , Mega Powers, The Briscoe Brothers , Too Cool , Harlem Heat , Primo and Epico , The American Males , Los Conquistadors and The Rock N Sock Connection.

Personally Vince, you've got CM Punk right there for you and he's almost at that level.

Vince will probably pick Big E Langston. About Austin, I heard that JR said that they originally wanted him to be a face, but he said no.

Richie Steamboat
Only 24 years old, good wrestler, good-looking clean-cut dude, son of a legend so he already knows the business, etc. Seems like a solid choice.

It's gonna be Ryback. Not even kidding. I honestly wouldn't complain. I think Ryback's awesome. Very quick and agile for a big man, great set of moves, a killer lariat and he can be decent on the mic from what I remember.

No one boosts ratings these days, aside from the occasional returning superstar that the fans haven't seen in a while. People put way too much blame on Punk not being able to boost ratings, when not even Cena has been able to do it. Hell, Cena's been the focus of the show for months and the ratings are even down from last year.

I could actually see Otunga fitting the role. He's a big guy with a great figure, celebrity connection, well educated, good role model and above all, he seems like a really great guy too.
