Good on them. SOPA has potential to screw the internet badly.

i honestly think if they approve SOPA.Other countries will start making sites,to subsitute the lost ones. And USA will suffer greatly from it,since they will lose big impact and influence in the internet, that means, alot of the world

It's a ballsy move, but dammit it's for a good cause.

I still think this doesn't stand a chance in hell of passing anyway, but this'll certainly help.

I still think this doesn't stand a chance in hell of passing anyway, but this'll certainly help. I know this leads heavy into politics, so I'll be trite as possible. The problem is there's still big names supporting the bill, most notably the MPAA, which makes it scarily possible that it could pass. Not to mention it's being handled by people who have no clue how dangerous this is not just to the internet but the economy as well.

Good on them. Too many websites/companies are either supporting it simply by saying hollow things like "Yeah, we really don't want this to pass!", or, worse, like GoDaddy, saying you won't support SOPA and then actually being one of it's bigger supporters(But there is A LOT of politics involved in this move, so I'm not going to talk about it. A lot of good links of Reddit about SOPA, if anyone wants to read up more on it).

I'm banking on this getting passed. It will be a very dark day for the internet.

So if SOPA passes, what exactly will it do? basically it gives the US free reign on the internet... you know how WWE can remove any copyright video from youtube? Imagine the US being able to remove any video they want for any reason whatsoever... thats the tip of the iceberg. Basically it allows them to control the internet like many believe they control the news. A well known British gamer put out the best explanation of everything he goes by the name of Totalhalibut on Youtube and honestly has the best explanation I've found. The name is " WTF is SOPA ? aka The American Government trying to ruin the internet" I put a link but it does have some political attributes so if the mods need to remove it I understand

It wouldn't just cripple, but almost effectively kill one of the most important technological tools of the world right now. And it's sadly in the hands of people who misunderstand that importance.

So if SOPA passes, what exactly will it do? This explains it pretty well This is very scary. While I do think piracy is a bad thing that can be easily abused (I know friends who refuse to ever go to the Theaters, buy albums, or buy DVDs) the extremity of this is absurd. 5 YEARS if you just have a video of you SINGING? Thats f***ing ridiculous. This can easily be abused as well. Google, Facebook, and YouTube are very profitable and targeting them for the sake of entertainers is almost absurd. This is NFL-level of tyranny. When did Roger Goodell get put in charge of this country?

I know this is treading into politics, but I hope this thread doesn't get killed.
This is honestly something even we can't just stick out heads in the sand about. If this passes, forget worrying about just losing youtube, or twitter, we could lose everything. Even this forum. One infringing link on a different proboards forum could kill all of proboards. Same with the FAN site itself. This is something that can't be ignored here for much longer.
