I really hope Facebook, Google, Twitter, etc. do go dark for at least one day. And explain why they're going dark. SOPA's destructive and cataclysmic effects on the internet need to outrage as many politically ignorant people as possible to the point where supporting the bill would be completely toxic and political suicide.

That really is the only way to potentially wall the supporters of SOPA. If they piss off the mainstream public, they're done.

I would gladly give up the entire Internet for one day just to watch this bill go down in flames.

I think the problem is it may have to take more than one day to really get the point across to a lot of people.

For a fleeting moment, I thought they legitimately had nukes.
Then I realized the world isn't Metal Gear Solid...yet.
But hell, good on them. Way to stand up.

I hate this government more and more every damn day of my life. It is absolutely ridiculous how much of a tyranny this country is becoming.

I heard on a tech blog that at the preliminary hearings, some politicians were openly bragging that they don't even know how to use a computer, so they don't see how this could be a big deal. And it's got a big chance of passing. The people making this decision seem to be sorely out of touch with modern society.
I think Amazon, Google, Yahoo, etc. should shut down for like a week before the vote to really hammer home how damaging this horrible bill will be.
Oh, and apparently CBS/Viacom themselves were responsible for much of the piracy to begin with:

It's in the hands of people who have no clue that this will lead to the destruction of modern society as we know it.

No it will kill all internet important society, not just the US. A lot of important sites reside in the US, and they will be shut off to the rest of the world.

That's because is aid some other country will pick up. A lot of important sites reides in the US,so naturally the other countries will make sites to make up for the ones lost. US will slowly lose power because of it. It will cause some rpoblems over a LONG time, but eventually, humans will be able to pick it up.

Some of these idiots actually bragged about not knowing how to use a computer? I can't put into words how much that baffles me. They run our country, yet don't know how to use one of the most important gadgets in the world. Just unbelievable how out of touch they are.

Actually, this would theoretically give the US "World Internet Police" powers via international corporations' copyrights. So it's a threat to the Internet at large, not just American sites.
