The best part about it all was that Mark wasn't suddenly a monster. First he got angry and took out the Big Show. Then he took out Kane. Then he out brawled Sheamus. Finally, he steamrolled Orton. That is how you book a monster. What's great is how Orton's past few months tie into this. Had Randy not been distracted and busy dealing with Christian all these months, he might have been able to better prepare himself for an eventual match or stop Henry earlier. But he didn't. Very good point - wonder if they'll play that up. Maybe point out how back before he started really feuding with Christian Orton was able to beat him and did a few times, but at this point Henry's built up so momentum Orton has no way to stop him.

I figured Mark would leave this feud with the WHC... but I thought they'd go about it in a roundabout fashion, with some mitigating circumstances involved, a non-finish to at least one PPV, and probably some godawful stuff where Henry starts acting like a coward and getting himself DQed to retain against Orton.
This was fantastic. They completely put him over as a monster, which is impressive considering we've spent fifteen years watching this guy be a chubby midcard act.

Kudos to Orton for doing the job clean. No doubt he could've vetoed that finish. Glad for Mark and Orton proves hes a real professional.

Now this is some booking I can get behind. Heck, even if it is Mark Henry, the guy definitely seems to be firing on all cylinders lately. I'd say he more then deserves a quick reign. It's not like it's going to do Smackdown any more harm although match quality will probably take a hit.

I'm not going to lie, I marked like a 10 year old cheering for John Cena.
I hope he holds on to it for a while, not dropping it in 2 weeks at HIAC like I fear he will.
Mark Henry has been all types of awesome this summer.

Best move they could've made, which is astonishing considering the Main Event. It's weird how Smackdown's main story was booked so logically and great while Raw's is convoluted as all hell. Agree. It's as if they were two completely different promotions.

I just realized that Mark Henry's now only the second African American World Champion (not counting The Rock) in WWE history. That's a pretty big deal.

Actually I probably should have said "Black" there since that argument makes more sense than African American.

The Samoan heritage thing. Every time "African-American champions" are talked about, it'll be brought up. It's never really made much sense though IMO, because WWF never tried to ignore or downplay Rock's race. They harped on him being Rocky Johnson's son quite a bit during his initial crappy babyface run, and Rock started really getting over while he was part of the militant black power faction.

Good booking. The end. You have a gigantic monster who was a goof. Then another gigantic monster beat him up for no reason. He realized he wasn't taken seriously by anyone, and that motivated him. Then it was ass kicking time. He didn't win by having 64 lackeys or getting kicked in the nuts, he destroyed people. Classic monster heel. It works.
At least in the awfully booked Christian/Orton saga they had a well-booked backup and it paid off.

I LOVED the match and the ending was so kickass. But that promo afterwards was the icing on the cake. Basically telling the fans to shove it and that he's NEVER going to lose the title. I marked like a small child at all of it. Easily the best part of the PPV.

...as a damn whistle. Henry just said "f*** your RKO" and Slammed him for the pin. Nuts. I never thought it'd happen like that. Orton got humbled. My jaw dropped. I thought OMG Orton can't win can he... Mark knows Orton can't beat him.... and as soon as I saw that look in Mark's face of you can't beat me. I knew it was over but even when Mark henry won! I exploded with glee!
