- This past Monday on the WWE Raw Supershow, Vince McMahon made the call not to mention Fort Wayne, which is the city Raw was taped in. If Vince doesn't think the city sounds big league enough, the name of the city is banned. A few weeks back when Smackdown was in Columbia, SC, he made the same call.
Saw this on on a couple newz sites, so I can't guarantee that its 100% truthful. But its just too funny not to pass along. ;D

It's Vince, so this pretty much any ridiculous story is pretty believable.
The man is weird.

I wonder if Stamford, CT is notable enough to be named on the broadcast.

No one earth cares about what city RAW is coming from, unless it was " We are live from Bowlegs Oklahoma!". Then I suspect they'd care. I love how these are the things that Vince puts his foot down on, rather than, you know, having his lead play-by-play guy sell his product and not act schitzo.

Makes sense.
Unless a wrestler on the roster is from the city or it's somewhere important ala London, Toronto, or Tokyo, why the hell does anyone even care?

The guys on Review A Raw (one of Live Audio Wrestling's weekly podcasts) made a brief mention of how no one said the name of the town they were in. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if someone heard this and it became a NEWZ item.

Can't wait for WrestleMania live in the shadow of New York City next year.

I wonder if Stamford, CT is notable enough to be named on the broadcast. We'd probably get "Live from Stamford, Connecticut, the home of the WWE."

I would be surprised if Vince could find Laredo on a map of Texas.

Funny, there are over 300,000 people in Fort Wayne, it's really not a small city at all. Also, it was a real sell out for Raw, something they don't get too often, maybe they should actually appreciate it. This is why I miss WCW, they came here all the time and had no problem mentioning it on Nitro.

My favorite was back in the late 80's/early 90's where Vince would have the announcers put the term "suburban" in front of a major city in lieu of saying the smaller one. "Live from Suburban Cleveland Ohio (Richfield, ahem), it's The Survivor Series!" It's also why Edge and Christian are from "Toronto" instead of "Orangeville."

I love how from all accounts, McMahon will stress over the pettiest of matters while more often than not completely ignoring the bigger picture.
