So i met this really attractive college student who is 18 years old and we went on a date and really hit it off and now she is telling me she wants to be with me...I am 26 years old and am a little leery right now as to how others would look at it...I'm afraid im going to be looked at as a total pervert or something...Anyone have any experience with these large age gaps?

I'm the same way, dude. There are some 18 and 19 year olds that I find attractive and I'm 25. The problem is that they're a little young for me and people tell me "Age is only a number" or "She is legal." Legal or not, it just feels weird to date a girl right out of high school and I have been out of high school for over 7 years.
Though of course, I have fancied women who are in their 30s or so, but I'm not sure if there's a double standard with that.

I was 23 and started dating my now fiancée 3 weeks before her 18th birthday and nobody raised any issues. Honestly, I see nothing wrong with 26 dating an 18 year old

I really don't see anything wrong with it. My in-laws actually have about a 15 year age gap between them.

At 18 and presumably fresh in college, she's in a period of here life where she's going through a LOT of change. Not something I'd want to get caught up in.

She's legal and you like each other, go for it.
My other half is 20 to my 26, some people are a bit funny about it, but screw them, we're happy
Granted, we're right on the rule of half plus 7, but that's a silly rule anyway, it's about how YOU feel, forget anyone else

I dated a 19 year old last year when I was 26. It was pure hell.
However, it's more about the person, age is just a number etc etc. Do what you feel is right.

If you're both legal, anything goes.

There's no way an 18 year old has the maturity an adult has, just because there are certain aspects of maturity you can only get by living and experiencing life as an adult. And seriously like I said, this is a period of change for her. I refuse to date college freshmen simply because I don't want to deal with that - the person you're dating now will probably not be the same person a few months from now.

I asked these questions because I told a friend about the night we had...I took her to Olive Garden, caught a movie, then we got a motel room and my friend's reply was..."Who do you think you are Charlie Sheen?" and it made me think everyone is going to treat it this way haha

There is also the fact that there are college freshman who "technically illegal." By that, I mean they haven't turned 18 yet, like if their birthdays are in November or October, later than others. Of course, when I started college a long time ago, I was still technically 17 and then turned 18 the same week.
I know people say that age is only a number and believe me, I have talked to a girl who is 18 at my college before but she seems mature, so I'll make a few exceptions here and there. I felt the same way two years ago when I was 23 and there was a cute 18 year old in a class with me.

i think another reason that is stopping me from being able to take it outside of the dating stage is how her parents are going to look at me...Im scared that it will be awkward as hell and I will get the 3rd degree lol

You sound like you're the one with the hang up. If the age thing is too much for you, dont mess her around

Well, a classmate of mine is only 19 and she is dating a 31 year old. I guess I don't have much to trip about now that I think about it.

I'm 31 and my wife is 43.
Before her, my longest-term relationship ended when I was 26 and my now-ex was 21.
Age is nothing. Do what you think is right.

And you won't know if it works unless you try. I say go for it. A handful of people might disapprove, but you're not doing anything wrong. And if it doesn't work out, hey, another failed experiment.

Well, there is the unwritten "half your age, plus 7" rule. But if you follow that, you're kinda screwed...

My mother and my stepfather were 22 years apart in age, and they were absolutely perfect for each other. I think you should do what you feel is best, without worrying about age.
