Eh, I dont think it makes them look bush league, just trying to build a guy up. It was silly for him to get like 3 hype segments before his debut, but it was all pretty harmless imo. But then, I didnt think his promo was horrible either (it wasnt good, but I didnt think it was that bad either). Maybe I was just relieved that the promo wasnt focused on him throwing jabs at WWE. I was bummed that it wasn't bitching about WWE, that would've at least been funny, instead of the standard Gut Check promo where he talks vaguely about his heart and determination and respect and this business and all that.

It got awkward when he kept talking about his legendary family and such.. and it's like yeah, THEY were.
And again I'll say, for the most part we're not making fun of Chavo himself, he's fairly talented, but let's be real, he's been a midcard guy, that's what he is and there's no shame in that; but TNA on Thursday were acting like it was some sort of LEGEND coming in and such. That was comical. The hype video was fine, but interviewing all the other wrestlers and such was silly.
Though I also was afraid that Kid Kash was gonna talk about Eddie and them being dead when he said something about " Where's your family now".. so thankfully they didn't do that.

As much overhype as there was, let's be glad he at least didn't get the "brush tna talent aside" treatment Christian And Angle got. Samoa Joe was a roll until angle comes and washes away what he was doing.
Hernandez and Kid Kash on the other hand weren't exactly doing anything currently. Hernandez looks better next to Chavo compared to the horrendous joke that is Anarkia.

I don't remember it being that surprising thoughts from the wrestlers.
Tara - She used to drive and hang with the guy and was friends with him back in the 'E, plus she was happy on her twitter when the news came out, so it makes sense.
Bully Ray- Heel thing of his.
Angle - Always seems to be the guy who talk about any new talent incoming. He even did it during the first X-Division qualifier before Destination X.
Kid Kash - Setting up his segment for later.
Unless I missed someone, and I could have, nothing too outrageous.

Well, there was, again, Chavo and I'm pretty sure Tenay(Not sure if that's true, or if I'm remembering wrong, legit), calling himself a "legend" which is....even by wrestling standards, hyperbolous to the point of insanity.

Well, if theTenay thing is right, Legend is a bit much, but what can be used to refer to the guy? Mainstay doesn't sound right in wrestling terms. Veteran make him seem older and less important, especially in contrast to the hype job. Any come to mind?

He lasted long enough to get to that stage of his career, and deserves respect for it. I mean, he IS older, there's no getting around that, why not turn into it with a descriptor that's actually apt, instead of trying to turn him into the least impressive legend in wrestling history?

"Veteran" is a perfect word to describe Chavo, actually. He's been around since the mid 90's and has worked just about every major wrestling company in the US there is. He's never been a star, but he's held various lower and midcard titles.
"Legend" is a real dubious word for Chavo, as the only things legendary about him are a few of his relatives.

I'd say WWE has used the "Legend" tag on some equally dubious people though.
For example, even considering his heel run, was Doink the Clown really a Legend?

Multi-time champion in both the singles and tag arena all the world over and a member of the legendary Guerrero wrestling family? If you really want to stretch it, "A pioneer of what is now the X Division"? I'd say WWE has used the "Legend" tag on some equally dubious people though. For example, even considering his heel run, was Doink the Clown really a Legend? No doubt but there is more a marketing terms for the retired, fired, and no longer in the way that aren't HOF (yet) like "Superstars", "Divas", and "Knockouts" .

In all seriousness when did Chavo ever have credibility? He was a midcard (mostly) jobber in WCW and outside of teaming with Eddie, becoming Kerwin White and getting beat by Hornswoggle I can't remember a single thing that he did in the E. While it doesn't say a lot for ECW he was the champ there. I do think it was silly to hype a middle-aged careerr midcarder so much. His hair does look great, kudos on the implants. They do seem to be setting-up a LAX 2.0 vs Kash/Gunner feud that could be good for what has become a WWE-level tag-division.

Chavo's year long feud with Hornswoggle tainted his character forever imo. It reminds me of a scene from the hardcore prison drama OZ, in which a former gang leader & prision rape victim tries to reclaim his lost status. During the scene another prominent gang leader pulls the former tough guy aside and informs him that no matter what he does going forward he will never erase the stigma that hangs over him. No matter what everytime I see Chavo I'll think of Hornswoggle pinning him after a tadpole splash while Chavo was wearing a cow costume, and then post match was hogtied by 'Swoggle. I never thought I'd see Chavo Guerrero get compared to Peter Schibetta. I love the internet sometimes. Anyway, I'm glad to see Chavo get signed. TNA sorely needs undercard talent. The TV title is barely defended, the tag title division is a memory, and the Knockouts have to have #1 contender matches every 3rd week b/c they can't think of any big storylines for their champ. (I'm leaving the X-division out of this because they just got their yearly attention.) The top of the card is great, but they need to focus on the lower card too.

This pretty much how he was brought into Ring Ka King, down to the debut promo in nice street clothes...even though he was mostly used as a tag partner of DH Smith. Looks to be the same deal, with Hernandez taking the Smith role. Dont think he is gonna be a main eventer. A guy showing up in a new company/territory putting himself over as a big deal is one of the oldest promotional tricks in the book. Have no problem with it. If TNA is going to insult our intelligence, its far better doing it while trying to get a guy over, than how they used to insult it (which was at every turn). Once he wrestles, everyone realizes/remembers he isn't Eddie, not even close, but he isn't terrible. Chavo has always been in a hard position, he is really difficult to repackage because he was getting over in WCW when they were doing 5s in the ratings. So he has been well known since 1997, and his last name has a stigma. But he was mostly a comedy act there and in WWE for the better part of 15 years, even though he can have good matches with the right opponents. What do you do with a guy like that?* *- {Spoiler}Probably turn him heel eventually and feud with Eric Young over ODB or something. Then let his contact lapse, or move him into a backstage role.

My favorite Chavo moment is when Triple H beat him up because Rey Mysterio won the Royal Rumble.
