It was the most surreal thing I've seen in a while. I was like "They know it's only Chavo, right?" the entire night.

How did you all feel when the WWE hyped his debut in the summer of 2002, made it seem like a big deal, and used him as a great hand on Smackdown for two years?

It was the most surreal thing I've seen in a while. I was like "They know it's only Chavo, right?" the entire night. Tell me about it. They were acting as they just signed Randy Orton or Rey Mysterio. It made them look pretty bush league, IMO.

I was excited for Chavo to be in TNA...But then all that hype to have him not wrestle and ramble on...Yeah not so much lol.

It does make them look distinctly minor league. Chavo is a good hand worth having around, but he's a jobber and the casual fan will not understand why a perennial jobber is getting such hype...

The man spent a year jobbing to Hornswoggle.
A whole year. Jobbing to Hornswoggle.
You lose your right to call yourself a 'Legend' after that, buzz word or not.

I've been a Chavo fan for a long time, really liked him in WCW, loved him with Eddie and even felt his run on ECW was pretty good but he's 41. I've heard that he's wrestled well in the promotion Lance Storm books and the in ring action has never been the concern with Chavo, but what's he going to do? He, realistically, doesn't have too many years left in him especially with that style and, unless he gets a character revamp, he just doesn't seem to be in a position to do anything but work as either enhancement or a decent midcarder. Which he's been his entire career, certainly is a necessity in pro wrestling, and something to be respected.
But, it doesn't look like it will be that way. It looks like they want to hype him up as a big deal. He isn't one, not yet anyway. It's a do or die thing, this might be a Bully Ray situation where a good to great worker turns into a phenomenal one with a gimmick change and a refocus in his career. So, maybe Chavo will be the same way. I personally think he has a ton of talent but that's not the only thing you need in wrestling.
Personally, I hope he kicks ass. He complained about not having opportunities in WWE. Well, hopefully he'll get those in TNA and show what he's capable of.

I'd laugh a lot if after all the hype Chavo came out, everybody stared at him for a moment like they were afraid of him, then said "Wait, it's just Chavo!" and then everybody proceeded to laugh and never mention him like a big deal anymore. I'd be a TNA fan for life if that happened. They could have the worst angle in the world after that and I still wouldn't jump ship.

Chavo is one of those guys that could resurrect Mitsuharu Misawa, and pin him clean in front of a rabid Tokyo Dome crowd, before flying to America and making the Undertaker tap out at WrestleMania, and I still wont give a damn about him. Please. This is Chavo we're talking about. He'd attempt to pin Misawa, Misawa would turn into a bat and fly away, then suck all of Chavo's blood and do the Thriller Dance with the ECW Zombie.

I don't remember, but even if so -- that was ten years ago. Now he's older, and has been on TV as pretty much a straight up jobber for the better part of a decade -- even losing a feud with a midget. At this point, he's little more than a joke who happens to be a relative of pro wrestling royalty.

It's cool that TNA signed Chavo, but treating him like he's on the same level as his uncle is a bit much. I've always thought he was a solid talent, and that's about it. "Solid", "good hand" and "veteran" are perfect descriptions for him, but I've never seen a performance of his that showed me he should be pushed as a serious main event threat.
I'll ditto what Ric said- he's better suited in comedy roles. I get that a lot of folks thought the Hornswoggle feud disrespected him in some way, but he was the perfect guy for it at the time.

Named a Pokemon I just caught "Chavo." It was immediately entered into the Hall of Fame at lvl 100. Professor Oak then declared that it could ride its bike indoors. The kicker? It was only a Magikarp that never evolved into a Gyarados.
