Not happy, but I expected it. It just didn't do good ratings, and while fan support was great, if you're not affecting the Nielsen boxes then you're not going to get infinite chances.

Can't believe in 2014 that a shows survival depends on a little box they give out to random yahoos. Surely with this thing called the internet, there can be better and more accurate way to monitor a TV audience... But what do I know.

NBC had to make room for Mr. Egypt.

I've always maintained the theory that any of the On-Demand Enabled Set Top Boxes actually double as Nielsen boxes. It's perfect because you then have the equivalent of a Single-Blind study, if not a Double-Blind with the advent of Digital Antennae requiring a new transceiver. Though in that case ...it WOULD explain why "Network" shows seem to be cancelled so damn quickly, as they're not inherently connected it looks like people that CAN/Do watch only Network (i.e Over the air) broadcast show aren't tuning in en masse.

Let's be honest here, the show sucked in the ratings, and NBC gave it plenty of chances. Most critically-acclaimed shows with crummy ratings would have killed for a five-season run. They should be counting their lucky stars that they had a second season, let alone five.
Then again, I'm probably coming from a place of bias, because I've long held the belief that the only watchable season was the first season, and the show has gotten progressively worse ever since.

Eh, you'd have a huge privacy issue at hand if you recorded people's tv watching habits without informing them. It's bad enough that it happens on the internet, but there you take some steps o avoid being tracked. This would be much harder for tv sets unless you were really tech-savvy. Not to mention that the data would be useless for it's intended purpose, as advertisers want to know the demographics for people watching. You wouldn't get that with just recording everything without the viewer's knowledge/consent. Over time, things like internet discussion might take over ratings systems, but I don't see it happening right now. The problem is that there's really no good way to figure out how many people are really watching a show live, vs. how many will watch ad-free online later or with DVR's.

I can't believe we wont get any more time with characters so close to my heart. Its heartbreaking over the past few days and the more I think about it the more it upsets me. Maybe it finds another home for a final season and get's financed for a movie somehow (maybe via Veronica Mars kickstarter etc way...) to complete the prophecy of Abed, but it is highly unlikely . It has been such a major show for me, the characters, the best and most clever comedy writing ever, the stories, the layers ("so many layers"), the heart and soul. The fact that it didn't end on it's own terms and fulfill what everyone who was a fan/associated with it wanted is just agonizing and distressing for me, it had such a huge influence on me.

Is anyone else finding themselves super upset about the fates of the characters according to Abed's canon?

Articles going around today are stating Dan Harmon is most likely moving on to other projects and it's doubtful the cast would return without him after the experience of Season 4. So the hope of a Netflix-type finish are looking pretty slim, sadly.

I loved the first and second seasons of this show, third season was alright but after that it went really downhill to me. I think it became so far fetched and just lost any sense of a reality that the first season had. Other then a couple of episodes, season 5 was hard to watch for me. It just really strayed to me from the first two seasons.

Yahoo? what the? I have never watched anything on Yahoo and I didn't know that they had original content.
Is this in any way available on Roku/Streaming consoles?
If it's only off their website, luckily, This is one of those things where the Chromecast comes in handy.
