If you liked the engaging story, personal nature, and the downright unsettling atmosphere that Silent Hill usually delivers, eat shit and f*** off. That's basically what Konami is telling us with this:
Homecoming was a disaster. Downpour was disappointing. THIS is a betrayal. A dungeon-crawler? Really? Are you serious? How DARE they put Pyramid Head in this!? They depart from everything that made Silent Hill work. Even if the gameplay was shit, you still had the narrative and atmosphere to make up for it.
At this point, the Silent Hill 3D movie will be the best thing to happen to the franchise in years. Come on, October! Bring me the sweet relief of Sean Bean in Silent Hill!

This series desperately needs a reboot.

They outdid themselves when they disbanded the Suikoden team, in my eyes. Now, they're just treading murky water a little above CAPCPOM territory, only really a little of a force because they still have Kojima. Still sad to see the series whimper on like this, after the blinding brilliance of the first three games.
edit: oh, I'm apparently not booked anymore.

I've really been meaning to give this series a proper shot sometime. I actually have 2, but I haven't gotten around to playing it, and my brother has 3 and 4. Also been curious about Shattered Memories, though I've heard mixed things on it - worth a look?

Though I suggest you get any other version than the Wii version.

This series desperately needs a reboot. Well considering only three of the eight games are directly linked, I dunno how you'd go about that. That's like asking for the Final Fantasy series to be rebooted.

That was a long time coming since Murayama left, since Suikoden was his baby and he's one of the few people who knew where to go with the franchise. Most people working the latter Suikodens (especially Tierkreis) never had anything to do with the franchise.

Quit shoehorning PH into everything, dammit. God yes. Do they not realise the significance Pyramid Head had in Silent Hill 2 and how appearing in any other game makes no sense? At least they could replace him with an analog like the Butcher in Origins and the Boogeyman in Downpour.

I gave up on Silent Hill 2 after half an hour of trundling through badly rendered fog to even start the game. I was so irritated, I couldn't bring myself to continue.

At least they could replace him with an analog like the Butcher in Origins and the Boogeyman in Downpour. The significance was James wanted to subconsciously punish himself. Pyramid Head was the worst of James embodied in a walking phallus symbol that killed others(mainly just females) with phallic weapons. The idea behind Pyramid Head is one that they sadly could milk over and over, seeing how a lot of Silent Hill protagonists were murderers that wanted to be punished. However Pyramid Head himself should stay with James and only James. I get it, Konami, Pyramid Head is the most iconic Silent Hill enemy, Silent Hill's own Nemesis. However, you don't see Capcom trying to shove Nemesis or a Nemesis expy into many subsequent Resident Evil games. He's only showed up in games that cover the events of RE3(or crossover games like UMvC3). Two things Konami needs to stop milking in the Silent Hill games: 1) Pyramid Head 2) Sexy demon nurses Or maybe it isn't Konami we need to be bitching to? Those two have really only been milked once the games shifted from Team Silent to all the various Western developers they've used. So really, Western Silent Hill developers, stop using Pyramid Head/an expy of him and the sexy demon nurses!

Well I'd like to say that it was the whole point, that taking ages to actually get to Silent Hill emphesises the isolation, but I doubt that will help much.

After that never had the patience to play more. Similar with Shadow of the Colossus actually, which I think I bought the same day as Silent Hill 2. Played for awhile up until the first boss, wasn't having any fun with that so I turned it off and haven't played it since.

So really, Western Silent Hill developers, stop using Pyramid Head/an expy of him and the sexy demon nurses! But Pyramid Head is unique to James since James based his look on the picture of the old town executioners that he saw in the Historical Sociiety during his previous visit with Mary. The other protagonists that see him, Alex in Homecoming and Rose in the movie, should have no idea that the executioners even existed, let alone what they looked like. Silent Hil manifesting "punishers" in other forms, like the aforemntioned Butcher and Boogeyman, is reasonable but Pyramid Head makes no sense to anyone other than James.
