While I do admit I made jokes at Ric's expense a good number of times; his appearance and performance last night was truly sad. From seeing how broken down his body has become to watching him struggling to do his regular spots, it was cringe worthy. I couldn't focus on the match without thinking that Ric is literally killing himself to earn a paycheck. I get his financial status is of his own doing and big money spending. But no one at his age and current health should have to wrestle and take the bumps he does. Even if he wants to be out there, someone should tell him no and find another way he can contribute. It reminds me of how Misawa looked and wrestled like during his last year alive. No one wants to tell him to retire because he is a bonafide legend. WWE did and Flair just went to TNA.
The story of Ric Flair is a sad saga that only get crappier as it goes along.

At this point, Flair is such a trainwreck, I enjoy watching it all. Plus, as you mentioned, it's his own doing, so I can't feel sympathy for him

Reign, could you tell me more about Misawa? I know little about him.

the thing is, Misawa wasn't nearly as old as Flair is, so it somehow becomes sadder. Although I never made the comparison in my brain before, I have to admit its a little eerie.
I can't feel any sympathy for the guy, though. I just can't.

Oh, thanks. I recall that Misawa died young.

Personally I don't feel sorry for him at all. As others have said...he has brought it on himself.
As a wrestling fan it's sad to see him out there as he's become nothing more than a mere shadow of his former self. He's a legend for sure, but all this is doing is making a joke out of him. I wish he would've been sensible so that he wouldn't have to be doing this, but again...he brought it on himself.

Flair will never retire, so it's really up to promotions to just tell Flair they aren't going to let him wrestle anymore. If he wants to manage, announce, be involved with booking or train younger wrestlers fine, but they need to let him know that his in ring career is over.

I can't. I mentioned it in the Impact thread last night, I feel bad sometimes seeing him that way; but he did every bit of it to himself, so I can't pity him.

Just because he did it to himself don't mean we can't or shouldn't have sympathy or pity for his plight. I see someone struggle and I try to help. If there were a way for me to help him I would. He kept me entertained for twenty plus years. The very least I owe him is sympathy

I thought him and Sting pulled off a decent match.
Don't feel sorry for Flair. He does not need your pity. For a guy in his 60s to still be able to do what he does is amazing.
Is like to see anyone who is feeling sorry for him be in half the shape he is in in their 60s.

It is sad to see what Naitch has become, but he still thinks he is in his prime and will continue to take those necessary bumps.

He felt sorry for him last Impact, he looked so slow and old. Strange how he did not look as bad the other times he was in the ring againt Jay Lethal for instance. He must have had something.

Whether or not it's significant, but against Jay (just as an example), Flair did actually appear to be enjoying himself. Just look up the famous Lethal/Flair "Woo-off" video, and the guy is clearly having the time of his life against a young up and comer who a) obviously loves and respects both Flair and the business as a whole and b) is equally determined to give it 110%. No matter what they do in the ring at this stage, Flair and Sting will have done it before, many years ago, and probably better than either of them could possibly do it now. That has to be massively disheartening, knowing that regardless of what you do, or how hard you try, you're never going to be able to recapture those past glories. Flair/Lethal was something NEW, and trying something new inevitably brings out a rekindled passion for whatever it is you're doing.

I feel sorry for Ric Flair's creditors... I don't have any sympathy for the man himself. Unlike some workers out there who're wrestling into their twilight years, all of Flair's problems are of his own creation, he's the one who put himself in this situation and unlike most of his peers, he has an out. His friends in the WWE will see him taken care of if he could just swallow his pride and accept his best years are behind him, very few wrestlers will ever get that option. The guy was reportedly offered $250,000 a year to work ion a non wrestling ambassadorial role, most healthy, active workers don't make that but he turned that down. I can't feel sorry for anyone who does that.

Flair/Lethal was something NEW, and trying something new inevitably brings out a rekindled passion for whatever it is you're doing. It must add up to the many heartbreaks of a pro wrestler in that I think he looks at TNA and all the storylines that have been left aside and all the guys that could have had the push he was involved with and did not and I think at this point his honeymoon with TNA is over and I figure he sees TNA as another WCW. I think he knows TNA is not run right and Flair loves the business and if tomorrow TNA would say "would you like to put the young guys we have" he would be happy to do it. Wich is what Flair, Hogan, Flair and the rest of the old guys should be doing. It's what they always should have done since the beginning of TNA but have never done. (in my last post I meant "I" felt sorry for him last Impact not "He")

Why do people keep lending money to Flair?
You may as well just set the money on fire.

As a fellow human being my heart goes out to him. Some people truly are their own worst enemies.

He should swallow his pride, cut his spending, rejoin WWE (if the ambassadorial offer is still on) and be a manager to a wrestler who needs one, like Harley Race played the role for Lex Luger.
