Every few months the ladyfriend and I will pick up old sitcoms that arent completely played out and just enjoy some some "goofy time" together. The tradition started a few years back during a bad financial period wherein we were stuck with old dvds and PBS to serve as entertainment. One evening I was so frustrated with not having the finances to do anything "special" that I made a big deal about having a date night and well...$10 doesnt go far amigos. I went to the local "youre poor as f***" store and came back with supplies for tomato soup, grilled cheese, and season one of some so-so sitcom so unmemorable I cant quite recall its title (Coupling maybe, it was a British 'Friends' type show). Anyway, we had a lot of laughs and we've kind of kept the tradition alive over the years...so im always on the lookout for 'cheap laughs' and im hoping a thread may lead me to some new finds. Here are two of my better finds: Found at: Big Lots. Original airdate: 2008-2009 Cost: $3.00. Familiar face: Red from That 70s Show. 16 episodes, 1 of which wasnt aired during its one season CBS run...I think, of a dude with awful luck trying to win over his soon to be inlaws. Typical non-offensive CBS comedy good for a few laughs but not overly memorable. Its almost as if the Bad Luck Brian meme had come to life before it was even created. We crammed the entire series into two sittings last winter and sold it for $3 at a yard sale this spring. Considering the 100% return on investment I cant be displeased with a few hours of couch time sipping hot chocolate and laughing with the better half. Found at: The Dollar Tree. Original airdate: 2006-2007 Cost: $1.00. Familiar face: (Everybody Loves)Raymonds giant brother, the guy who banged Stifflers mom, Will Sasso, Anthony Anderson. 22 episodes of the contrast between newlyweds and a 23 yr married couple. Id seen a few episodes from the shows final season where they apparently just gave up and had the son in law thinking he was on a sitcom...he heard the laughtracks, predicted the cliched plot, and was the only one who seemed to notice his wife was constantly being played by different actresses...but I hadnt seen it from the start so I really didnt know what to expect. The thing must have completely fallen off the rails in season two because for a network sitcom season one is actually quite funny. A $1 purchase netted us 6 sittings and MANY laughs. Anyone have any forgotten gems that could be had on the cheap?

The George Carlin Show, though not on DVD........
Seen large parts of the second sitcom Ellen did, it wasn't God-awful.

Perfect Strangers seems to be all but forgotten in the annals of Pop culture, even though it's my favorite sitcom of all time. And it's spin off gave us Urkel.
But yeah, at least the first season is on DVD.

I buy old TvGuides and they are really fascinating to read for anyone that appreciates television, because there are shows I had forgotten about, missed out on altogether or stars that came from shows to become really huge stars years later. You want a forgotten sitcom? How about Amanda's starring Bea Arthur? I was shocked that between a huge show like Maude and The Golden Girls was a series with her that flopped and disappeared without a trace Or how about A.K.A. Pablo starring Paul Rodriquez and featuring a young Mario Lopez? A flop from Norman Lear(one of his few next to Sunday Dinner) that was seemingly ahead of its time as it featured a Spanish comedian and his family. I've been dying to hear the theme again on youtube, but some boob calls himself A.K.A Pablo for some goddamned reason and that's all you find on youtube aside from a couple promos

My Boys. Just finished watching this on Netflix last month and I wish they had done a few more seasons. My Boys is an American television sitcom that debuted on November 28, 2006, on TBS. The show deals with a female sports columnist in Chicago, Illinois and the men in her life including her brother and her best friend. The show was canceled by TBS on September 14, 2010, making the fourth season finale, broadcast two days prior, the series finale.

Personally, I preferred the second attempt to remake Fawlty Towers, Payne with John Larroquette.

I got an obscure one for you: Wild Oates.
It only aired on Fox in September of 1994, but I still remember bits from it. The first was how they when they used the term, "guy code" or something like that when one of the guys was doing something effeminate like playing footsy or something. The other one was how they bragged during the closing credits one time. They said that usually that is when the bloopers are shown, but that show was so good that they didn't have any bloopers!

I Married Dora.
Lasted one season, the premise wss that a guy stages a wedding to his Hispanic maid so she isn't deported.
The only memorable thing about it was how it ended.

Well, some sitcoms deserved to be forgotten.
Like Oliver Beene.

Mad Love was a really good show that got cancelled after just one season. Had Jason Biggs and Sarah Chalke in it. There is one copy of the DVD on Amazon and it costs $169.99...WHAT?!
