I think this is a glass half full/half empty thing. Let's just consider what has been put on WWE DOCUMENTARY. That has been PRODUCED and DISTRIBUTED by them. In the DVD you have:
- ROH and IWA MS mentioned by name
- ROH and IWA MS footage(!)
- OVW footage. A company that is now no longer associated with WWE.
- Colt Cabana, Ace Steel close family and friends being interviewed
- Samoa Joe (a current TNA talent) being mentioned by name and being put over as one of the best guys he has ever faced.
- An extensive amount of extras on both WWE and indy work on both DVD and Blu Ray versions. Including "I am not holding a microphone...!" and others
etc
I am sorry but in my opinion this is not a DVD to complain about. if you asked me a year or two into Punks in run in WWE that he would have been given full creative control over his own DVD that would contain footage from ROH/IWA/OVW, with an extensive look at all his career and personal life I would have told you that you are crazy. Nitpicking isn't going to change the fact that this is a huge success from a creative standpoint and shows the world of wrestling is getting smaller by the minute (in a good way).
Furthermore if the argument is about you wanting to see more of his personal life, well then you got it. I haven't seen a documentary done this personal with so much care. You literally see him waking up in the morning and going to work, how his family life has been among other things. If you want to talk specifically about girlfriends well it has that too, maybe it doesn't reference any of the girlfriends in the business but to have an ex who isn't in the business get interviewed which needs to be considered in the argument. Never mind the fact that she actually said why a relationship with Punk does not work, due to his commitment to the business. Lita was also interviewed, yes they didn't mention the relationship but she was still interviewed and was shown highly in Punks life with the tattoo. The DVD has all of this, including his hard upbringing which takes a lot of guts to be that open about it, especially on a DVD release.
So you get both a personal and professional look at his life right there. Personally it is in one of my top 5 documentaries that WWE has ever produced, and I have seen and liked most of the documentaries they have made.
I would also like to make a point on Name Takens point on Daniel Bryan. Although I agree that Bryan could have found a way to say how he feels in a more productive way I can see where he is coming from. I feel that what he means to say is that many others in the locker room do not have as much motivation or determination to go out and put on a good show like Punk does, and phones it in for the cash. In the business today it wouldn't surprise me if some wrestlers on the roster would do that, and you can see in their performances who are truly motivated and want to put on a good show compared to who do not. I think it is a fair comment, but he could have said it in a different way. I am also saying this as a huge Bryan fan
Considering that he has a few years left I think we can expect an even longer and more in depth documentary that this when it is all said and done, with all the points in his career referenced and discussed. So we will eventually have two incredibly indepth DVD's discussion two differen't points in his career.
