I am trying to come up with a good list of Great Wrestlers who put on some horrible matches, either because they weren't used to each others style. They didn't seem to connect in the ring. The crowd wasn't into it. It was a a horrible gimmicked match or maybe the match went through The Russo Swerve Machine..
What were some matches you were expecting epicness only to be let down with the product

Punk vs. Cena at Night of Champions, to me. The forced heel turn with all the cheap heat from Punk's Yankees gear, Cena's hometown crowd not being behind him at all, it ended up that both guys just got booed as they went through an awkward match, their chemistry was tampered with so badly. It turned up at the end, but that was just because of FINISHER! KICK OUT! AGAIN AND AGAIN!

Begins and ends with CM Punk vs. Elijah Burke vs. Shelton Benjamin on ECW. Given the 3 talents involved, it was one of the most disappointing matches ever, IMO. It was horrible save for one spot by Shelton. Shelton was the only one that actually gave a f*** about his performance that night. Punk & Burke just totally s*** the bed out there.

From what I've heard, Austin vs. Jericho should be in the running for this.

From what I've heard, Austin vs. Jericho should be in the running for this. Oh yeah. Jericho-Austin from No Way Out was brutally bad. Austin was at his worst at that point, all he did was throw tons of chops and do moves for no reason, like a superplex 4 minutes into a long match. Jericho was never booked credibly enough to be a threat to Austin either.

Austin-Undertaker at Backlash 2002. It felt like it would never end. The Chris Jericho-Christian ladder match from Unforgiven 2004 was boring and really sloppy (even by ladder match standards). I always felt the Kurt Angle-Shawn Michaels iron man match was really bad given the participants. It felt like they both phoned it in that day. The CM Punk-Undertaker matches from 2009. Punk's offence looked horribly unconvincing on Taker. The Chris Jericho-Edge matches from 2010 were very underwhelming. I don't remember that 3 way but Punk and Burke had a singles match at Judgment Day 2007 that was brutally boring and felt like it lasted forever. From what I've heard, Austin vs. Jericho should be in the running for this. That match really was bad. It's like they knew everyone was waiting for the NWO run in and just went through the motions until they got to that point. In that way it reminds me of Miz-Cena where all anyone was watching for was The Rock.

hart/backlund wrestlemania 11. not the worst match in the world, but not great at all.

A lot of Punk's matches on ECW can fall into this category, IMO. He was kinda sloppy back then.

A lot of Punk's matches on ECW can fall into this category, IMO. He was kinda sloppy back then. Punk was the type of worker in ECW that totally depended on the quality of his opponent. He wasn't used to his new martial arts style at that point, and it showed against someone else like Burke who wasn't the greatest worker in the WWE-style.

I feel like Punk and Jericho are going to show up in this thread a lot, probably even against each other.

Couple of examples sure to be unpopular - first one, Punk and Cena I think have no chemistry whatsoever. I like the Money in the Bank match, though I think it's vastly overrated, but their other matches just bore the hell out of me. That extends to their promo styles, don't think they mesh despite both being great talkers, but that's neither here nor there.
Second one, Punk vs. Bryan at Money in the Bank. I didn't see the Over the Limit match so I can't comment on that, but that Money in the Bank match was boring as all hell.

Eddie vs Benoit at ONS
The Jericho vs Austin match that was already mentioned stands out and I was so disappointed with the Jericho vs Edge Wrestlemania match though I sympathize with the condition Edge was in for the last couple of years of his career.

Lesnar/Triple H at Summerslam was a dud IMO

Surprised nobody has mentioned HHH/Orton from WM 25. The two should have hit it out the park, but it was easily one of the worst WrestleMania main events ever.

Perfect vs. Shawn at SummerSlam '93. good call, that was suprisingly very mediocre.

It could have been so much better than it actually was. They have had classics before. Armageddon 2002, Vengeance 2003, even their WCW matches and before. Eddie looked like he didn't want to be there.

I'm gonna say Beth Phoenix vs Natalia. For as long as we had to wait for that match, for all they were able to do to make other females that can't really wrestle look semi-watchable, and for it possibly being Beth's last match and it being their first match against each other, I really wanted to see something special and I didn't.

hart/backlund wrestlemania 11. not the worst match in the world, but not great at all. A lot of that came from Piper hamming it up as the guest referee. One that comes to mind is Mr. Perfect vs. Shawn Michaels. Not horrible, but very underwhelming.
