I've got more chance of wrestling in the main event than WWE getting an extended licence for Wembley Stadium. Brent Council only allow a certain number of shows a year, never allow more, and have only ever allowed granted two extended licences - Live Aid and Live 8. They'd have been taking the piss granting a licence for Live 8 given that it took place nowhere near Wembley. And Live Aid finished before 10pm

I don't see why they've waited so long to do this, with at least a lesser PPV.

I don't really understand how UFC can pull off these international events regularly and WWE has steered clear for so long.

So... What about the Olympic Stadium? Seems like it'd be big enough, without the restrictions of Wembley, and they've got to do something with it.

Exactly - the Olympic Stadium would be an incredible venue. The various opening and closing ceremonies went on until late, so the timing issue could be worked around. Transport links are fantastic. The venue itself looks incredible (remember those pixels in the stands? How good would they look as part of the wrestlers' entrances?) A stadium that size, holding a big event, packed out with a UK crowd, would be phenomenal. To be honest, the main issue I can see outside of time differences would be the weather.
I can totally see WWE watching the opening ceremony and thinking "We could have some of that."

Summerslam at the Olympic stadium would be a different kind of immense.

The Olympic Stadium will probably be a 60,000 capacity venue for next year when the park opens fully. As much as WWE would probably love to be there, would they really want 'Mania to be in a 'small' venue like that?

Really, with the Olympic Stadium, it depends on how far they are into modifying it to a 60,000 capacity venue for next year when the park opens fully. As much as WWE would probably love to be there, would they really want 'Mania to be in a 'small' venue like that? I don't think it'll be touched until 2015.

Thought they were going to get that work done before then for the potential new owners. Maybe, then?

This is England, after all. But I'm sure the stadium won't be altered until they know who/what the new tenants will be or what they want.

I just thought they said it was always going to be 60,000 post Games no matter who gets it but maybe I read all that stuff wrong.

They're booking Cardiff for the return of the People's Choice. But he's from nowhere near Cardiff. That would be like people claiming they're booking London so that Wade Barrett can fight in his hometown He went to Cardiff uni, so close enough.

Wade Barrett went to Uni in Liverpool which is a hell of alot closer to Preston than North Wales is To South wales but people would be offended if he was billed from Liverpool. Wade's actually lived in Cardiff probably longer than Mason has.

The timing is perfect for a PPV in the UK.
From a business point of view, it works. More than 500,000 of this year's 1.3m buys were from outside of North America, despite it starting at between 1 and 4am in Western Europe. How much would this increase by if it started at 9 or 10pm?
Yes, North American buys would go down, but not by as much as you might think (PG product now, an earlier start isn't the worst thing ever). That decrease could easily be compensated by an increase in Europe.
The UK probably wouldn't get Wrestlemania or the Rumble because of the weather, but Summerslam would be perfect. Where else would you sell 90,000 tickets?
Also, WWE isn't exactly in a boom period right now (like 1992). It wouldn't do any damage to business in North America, and would only improve things in Europe.
Plus, it's been 20 years. The UK kind of deserves it.

I really do hope a UK ppv happens and if it happened in Cardiff I would cry with joy.
but the one thing people are forgetting when they talk about international buys is that in the UK (not sure about other countries but I assume its the same situation) PPV's cost around half the price they do in the US

the Olympic stadium would be great i agree with that to an extent however as previously mentioned its been said that it will be 60,000 seater no mater who buys what or when so i cant see them using it as it will be seen as a "small" venue compared to others out there

If it's at Old Trafford expect some questionable officiating
