The idea of Alex Ferguson as special guest timekeeper is utterly hilarious

Lawrenson commentating on a new age Nexus would be hilarious. "Err, don't really know who they are, do they play in the league currently?" "No." "Oh...they mustn't have proven themselves in the training ground."

Summerslam is generally pretty substandard compared to the other Big 4. If it was the International PPV, it'd actually give it something inherently memorable.
Also, UK Crowds >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LA Crowds

The Rumble match is fun but because so many guys are involved you get nothing really by way of storyline. Survivor Series has been a filler PPV for years now. Summerslam is by FAR the second biggest 'normal' PPV of the year.

I would tend to rank the Royal Rumble as the second biggest ppv of the year, but I think WWE still regard Summerslam as the number 2 PPV.
Money in the Bank feels bigger than Survivor Series for me now too.
Anyway, back on topic this could be amazing. Fingers crossed it is Mania we get, there were all those "Olympic proportions" comments WWE made when hinting about where WM30 would be so there is that to cling to.
Any PPV would be good though and definitely would be going.

It's usually not substandard in quality (although I haven't felt bad about missing one in quite a while), but in terms of the big 4, there's nothing really that makes it special. The Royal Rumble match is always a ton of fun, and it doesn't need storylines to make it so. Survivor Series, while not what it used to be, has the traditional match in it, which is at least different from what you can see in other PPV's. Summerslam was special when there were only 4 PPVs, but there being so many more now, it's just another PPV they put on. It's usually not a bad PPV, but it's not a special one anymore to me. If they made it an international PPV, it'd be a new tradition unique to that PPV. LA is usually a bad crowd too, so that hurt it the past few years as well.

I think whoever wins the Royal Rumble and goes on to "main event" Wrestlemania (even if it is in the "special main event featuring the Kiss Demon" sense of the term) is a bigger storyline than anything that ever happens at Summerslam. And also whoever the champions are heading toward Elimination Chamber/Wrestlemania.

Yeah it's funny just how much a PPV is influenced by it's crowd. Maybe taking a PPV overseas, once a year, will help make said PPV more 'special' by virtue of that occasion.
We know that WM sells essentially 'because' it's Wrestlemania. We know we'll get four hours (at least) in front of upwards of 75,000 people in a huge stadium and it'll have that special look/feel to it. Summerslam, in the US, would never draw a comparable crowd, simply because the US audience is used them all.
Yet if every year we knew Summerslam would take place in Europe (UK, preferably) in front of huge crowds at a massive football stadium it may give the event a similar ingredient to what Wrestlemania has now. It will never be AS big, but it could still be more important and prestigious than it is as a result

But you don't get the feud build up like you can/do with Summerslam because aside from 'I'm going to win the Royal Rumble' - what else can you do? I think the PPV between the Rumble and WM where the title shot is inevitably on the line anyway, takes HUGE heat away from the Rumble itself. 'Win this and go to Wrestlemania..............if you win next month too...'

When has the Royal Rumble winner not competed for a title at Wrestlemania? Maybe it's just me personally but I get way more excited for Royal Rumble than any other show. Summerslam sticks out as being a great show to take to England because it does need that X factor. Like this year it had Brock Lesnar.

I would adore if 'Mania was here but Summerslam is a pretty great second choice. Heck, like you said, if Summerslam was going to be in Europe every year, people would be more excited because of where it is, the potential revenue from the country it is in and also, everyone involved would have to step up a tonne more to make it really memorable.

Having said all this how disappointing would it be to have them announce Summerslam 2013 will emanate from the Matthew Knight Arena in Oregon.

But yeah, to me it matters far less what goes on after the Rumble, the Rumble match itself is typically far more of an attraction that what happens at Summerslam. Whether Summerslam gets anything special is usually hit or miss.

If it is to be at Wembley then 'Summerslam at Wembley' by itself makes in a bigger deal. It'll mean WWE will put on a card that will justify the 90,000 fans they'd need to attract to fill the stadium.
I think it'll force the company to take a Wrestlemania approach to the event. Not treat it as 'another' PPV. But pull some stops out to make it an event. Even if it means Summerslam 2013 is extended to four hours. Even if you have to dig up Taker, pay Rock some money to turn up, do a deal with Lesnar - get Foley back in the ring. See if HHH can have another match. Really stack the card from top to bottom.
I think the wrestling calendar can stand more than one PPV that's meaningful in a 12 month period. Summerslam could be it.

What if we replace Over the Limit and turn that into a yearly international PPV?

What if we replace Over the Limit and turn that into a yearly international PPV? I just don't see Vince plowing money into a stadium show...for a very low B-PPV.

What if we replace Over the Limit and turn that into a yearly international PPV? The show will need genuine care and interest even over in the UK. I mean, we're starved for a WWE PPV but if stuff akin to the last two Over The Limits (or the equivalent before the name change) is booked in the UK you won't see a good turnaround.
