I don't think the WWE Champion should appear as an escort/valet/whatever for a UFC fighter.

I feel like the WWE Champion should be "bigger" than that. If he appears for the UFC, he should be treated like a star, not a sidekick.
Then again, I still live in the old fantasy world where I would like to see a WWE guy call out a UFC guy for shoot fight or something.

I don't think the WWE Champion should appear as an escort/valet/whatever for a UFC fighter. You mean you don't think the WWE Champion should be shown to have respect from a guy the general public views as a "real" fighter in a "legit" competitive sport, thus sort of legitimizing Punk himself - and maybe the whole WWE, what with it's new "reality" direction - in their eyes by association? That Punk shouldn't be seen as just a WWE thing but a media figure in general? That Punk shouldn't be shown to hang with a "tough" crowd and gain more recognition on NETWORK TELEVISION? Hmmm. What's more, they could have brought in Sonnen for an episode of Raw or an angle, and it would have been AWESOME (that dude was made to cut wrestling promos) with him being associated with Punk, but now who knows. What if Sonnen came out with Punk at 'Mania in return? It's a lot bigger than this whole "WWE Universe" bubble mentality.

I just don't think it's very fair when they'll have Perez Hilton guest announce on Raw Monday. Sure, he'll only have a microphone when announcing a match, but he's typed and said things to the point where people have wanted harmed or worse. I mean this is the guy who said Michael Jackson's death was a damn publicity stunt. You're willing to promote him, give him camera time AND a microphone while you won't let one of your superstars enjoy his night off by accompanying a fighter he likes?

Just like Disney, WWE is very protective of their brand. They had no control of the situation and didn't want to take chances. Honestly don't blame them.

LOL, this has all the earmarks of Trips getting involved and getting in Vince's ear. Why would HHH have anything to do with this? Why wouldn't he? Knowing his position in the company and his backstory, burden of proof is alot tougher on you than me.

That still doesn't answer the question " why would he have anything to do with this?" That's just saying "this sounds like the kind of thing he might do, so I guess he did it". By that account, what's to say it wasn't Johnny Ace in McMahon's ear, or Kevin Dunn. Hell, what about Stephanie, to run the gamut of people with influence backstage?

Its CM Punk. Who knows CM Punk outside of wrestling? Very few it seems like. If this were Cena, or 'Taker then I could see it happening but any other name seems like..'Oh, WWE? Yeah I watch that when I was in High School, they still show Nitro? I gotta see that again sometime!'

On this other board I goto people are cursing WWE for not letting him show up on the show, WHATS THE BIG DAMN DEAL!? So he can't be on UFC TV for a few seconds, big whoop. Punk being there won't make the show better or worse.
Sure it sucks but come on people. Big deal.

Its CM Punk. Who knows CM Punk outside of wrestling? Which would be the perfect argument for getting him on a network show with mainstream exposure IMHO.

I don't think the WWE Champion should appear as an escort/valet/whatever for a UFC fighter. Didn't Triple H escort Mayweather and Batista escort Manny a couple of times? Sure Mayweather is WWE royalty and Manny is possibly the biggest name in boxing so I don't buy into the whole beneath thing. If there is some drug controversy with the fighter Punk is suppose to escort like one poster said, I can see management being over protective of Punks straightedge character.

Let the top guy in WWE go into an uncontrolled environment where he would liable to say anything and risk putting the company in negative light for minimal exposure? WWE aren't stupid. UFC aren't going to spotlight CM Punk, nor are they going to give him publicity that WWE would want him to get for making such an appearance. Plus given what happened with Taker/Brock last year, do you not put it past White to pull a similar stunt on his TV programme?

Let the top guy in WWE go into an uncontrolled environment where he would liable to say anything and risk putting the company in negative light for minimal exposure? What would he say @ a UFC event that could possibly put the company in a bad light? its highly unlikely that he'd get the opportunity to bash his employer on live TV. At the most, he'd get a second to let him plug the Royal Rumble. So what's the harm in letting him do it? Other wrestlers have attended UFC and Boxing events or movie premieres for that matter despite not being featured to a great extent. Its a way to get a small blurb in a mainstream news source that "WWE champion CM Punk" was in attendance. What happened? Oh, you mean tons of free publicity for both companies.

Has anyone blamed Kevin Dunn for this yet? I haven't really heard about him much on here lately.
Anyway, regardless of what he's up to, I'm blaming him for this on the basis that I feel like it.

Vince telling him he can't even go to the event as a spectator is where it gets stupid and hypocritical. Especially when WWE is partially building their Hall of Fame this year around Ric Flair, a TNA employee, who'll need his own company's permission to even show up.
That said, UFC is in CHICAGO, so there's at least a small chance that even if not acknowledged, Punk could get "CM Punk" chants at a UFC event. It'd be bad-ass. And besides, Dana White has never publically buried WWE at a UFC event. Neither have any of the commentators. So what's the concern? No control outside of your silly contrived WWE Universe bubble that no one buys into anyway? It's just weird -- especially since Punk already got the ok last week.
Only in WWE would they kibosh one of their guys attending a legit sporting event featuring the most attention-grabbing star in that genre, Chael Sonnen, and embrace a nobody like Perez Hilton on RAW, that will mean absolutely nothing ( other than a snapshot of Perez with Kelly Kelly, with a "hilarious" cartoon caption over her face, on a blog no wrestling fan has ever even heard of/read).

Yeah I watch that when I was in High School, they still show Nitro? I gotta see that again sometime!' Which is THE ENTIRE REASON YOU HAVE CM PUNK GO OUT THERE. People who don't know him will be like "That guy is the WWE champion nowadays? Interesting." Because he doesn't really fit the mold. And he's hanging with Chael. Maybe they'll get that something's changed in the WWE, and maybe, just maybe...they'll CHECK IT OUT, now that they know who CM Punk is. Holy shit.
