I still love how the men in the crowd (and here on the 'net) love AJ because she seems like a normal, shy girl in your high school who you could perhaps get a date with. So WWE decides the best way to use this character is to have her desperately want to f*** John Cena, the prototypical (pun intended) musclebound lunkhead who 90% of men hate.

They seriously needed a focus group?
Are they that oblivious?
Man, and I thought the video game industry and the comic book industry were the stupidest when it comes to women. WWE may just have them beat.

Yeah. I'm sure it's that simple. No chance that the women you hire won't get over or appeal to the crowd right? Because they've had such success recently with other divas they hire currently getting over and appealing to the crowd? Other than Kelly Kelly (bizarrely), AJ and Mickie James, which divas in recent yeas can be said to have actually gotten over with the crowd? AJ and Mickie got over because they actually had personalities beyond looking pretty and been an airhead. The divas division has always sucked because on the whole, they have the same personality. Faces - Happy, smiling, palling around with chumps like Khali and Hornswoggle and doing nothing else. Heels - Bitchy and petty It's boring. Whenever a diva shows up with a actual personality that veers from the norm (AJ, Mickie James, Lita) they tend to get over... at least as much as over a diva can get. As for why there's a mass exodus whenever the divas match comes on, why people call them "piss breaks" and why people fast-forward or change the channel... well that's obviously because the matches suck; which can easily be solved by hiring divas with actual talent and a wrestling background. Personality + wrestling skills + actual time for matches and feuds = people caring about the division again. It's not rocket science. This post is sexist. {Spoiler}

This is why wrestling isn't as good as it used to be. They're using focus groups to see how go get people over. What the f***.

Every time I hear the words "focus group" in a wrestling context, I want to go bang my head against a wall 'til I black out. Do they really need to be told what the problems with the Divas division are?
1. The same damn gimmicks for just about everyone. Spunky face, bitchy heel. There is no variety.
2. Random face/heel turns, with no plausible reasoning. Sometimes they turn just by being on the opposite side in a match.
3. Three minute matches! Either hire Divas who can wrestle, get better training for the current ones (so that they don't justify the three minutes by botching all over), or both. Preferably both, so that the ones who can wrestle can help the ones who can't.
Also, I'd scale back on Eve a little and give someone else a try as champ. It seems like when anything goes wrong in that division, they panic and give her the title. It's getting to the point where she's the division Wesley.

focus groups are a waste of time This conclusion was reached after holding a thorough focus group about focus groups.

I’m quite frankly astonished that Hunter and Steph have three daughters yet they are so blasé about providing positive female role models on a television show that they control. Surely they are aware of Twilight and The Hunger Games – and how females are willing to part with their cash in great amounts?

One, Steph mentioned that Cena v Rock was booked with the intent of creating a "Team Edward v Team Jacob"-like fanbase for the match. Two, the AJ angle is way too Twilight-like to be a coincidence.

With pro wrestling, that seems to be more true in theory than when put into practice (in the indies).

You know what focus group they could have used? The live crowds at every show.

I think the main problem is that they don't know what they want (the company not the fans). They just don't know what to do with any of the divas, which is why we end up with gooker storylines like "AJ slept with Cena". Not only does it bring Cena down a lot...it hurts AJ in the long run because she'll be forever associated with it (along with others involved).
They need a total rethink.
My personal decision would be this.
Take every single Diva off television for 2-3 months (maybe longer). Have them compete in only dark matches/on house shows and you evaluate each of them. If you can put on a passable match for at least 10 minutes, then you're in the ring and that's it (it should be obvious is one can whilst their opponent is struggling). If you can't then you're either out of a job or you're resigned to PERMANENT manager duties.
If you can wrestle you're in. You then take a selection of your best writers and have them over the course of a few weeks work out an entire year of diva story lines (must be somewhat original and intelligently thought out). When the time comes to putting the divas back on TV it's simple. You take the two best female workers you have and have them go out for a 10 minute match. Make sure it's entertaining, along with giving the divas more variety in their matches. It needs to be rougher (whilst not looking like a cat-fight) and has to keep the audience attention. If that can't be achieved after a 3 month trial then you pull the plug on the division and leave them as a bit part in bigger story lines where possible.

Do they really need a focus group to do this? A - Stop wasting money trying to turn talentless bikini models into wrestlers B - Actually hire divas who can wrestle, have charisma and stand out from the crowd C - Give them more then 1 minute a week to work and actually give them feuds and storylines There you go Vince, I've just saved you a whole lot of time, money and effort. A. sometimes actually works (Trish, Eve, Alicia) so I can't see them ditching this approach entirely. Also, Victoria started out as a model. It's not like models can never become great wrestlers. I think it's mostly that there's no personality in the division. They basically just seem to hire girls to meet a quota, and never give them a chance to actually be anything other than "The British one" or "The Asian one." Well, the internet exists, you don't need to tune into wrestling to see hot women with little clothing, so trying to appeal in that way is going to be a losing cause. If you want people to care, you have to start doing what makes people care about the men's division with the women's division.

Put the belt on Anya and everyone wins. Who the hell is Anya? Somebody who is so bad in the ring that she actually rivals Rosa Mendes in ring skills(or lack thereof).
