I truly feel that Punk's promo on Raw was one of the best heel promos I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot. I had been a fab since 1990 and have never taken time off. Tonight the way he used bring up Flair to get woo's and the town to get a pop while absolutely ripping the crowd was genius. Truly, in the context of a wrestling promo, genius. When The freaking Rock came out it became legendary. Rock was better than he ever was against Cena last year. This feud already feels bigger to me than Cena/Rock. Punk proved tonight that he is a top five promo guy of all time tonight. I truly do not feel that is hyperbole. The way he talked about HBK, Flair, and Edge being pure heels and thanking the fans was great. The crowd didn't get it and it absolutely went over their heads. This was an all time great promo and segment in my eyes, truly one for the ages.

I don't think it was one of the best, nobody really bought it. It was good when he started talking about kicking Rock's ass and all Rock could come back with was telling him to get naked.

I wanna hear a promo where Kaitlyn tells Eve to get naked and look at herself in the mirror and to get tattoos on her bunghole. She can also make reference to the hair standing up on Eve's vagina. And I spose the name "cookiepuss" would fit surprisingly well.

Punk's promo itself I didn't think was that great, same goes for The Rock. It was really just a ton of cheap heat, spending a long time insulting the crowd and just stalling until after the commercial break. It was delivered well, Punk has a on of charisma, but on it's own I think it was pretty forgettable. His infamous one was much better to me.
As a package long with the Rock, it was fantastic, but better than the "I'm here, you're not, nana-nanana" vs. "Fruity pebbles" thing that was going last year.

I don't understand who the promo was for.
People who booed Punk before are still going to boo him. The people who cheered him are still going to cheer him.
WWE Universe on Twitter was retweeting people praising Punk. So what's the point?

The job of a wrestling promo is to sale a match.. RR is bought by me off the strength of this promo. I just wish Rock would get a bit more serious like we know he can. His style tonight didn't match Punk's style, but he can do that shoot style. I hope he goes that direction. This is the first time I think anyone has ever outclasses Rock on the mic. He might watch that at the hotel and realize he has to bring out the real guns. Time to drop the hash tag promo style and get grimy. I am so pumped.

WWE Universe on Twitter was retweeting people praising Punk. So what's the point? Team Edward v. Team Jacob done better? That said, I think everyone in WWE not named Vince McMahon knows each man has a large fanbase that won't be swayed and will point that out. They're still going to push Rock as the face and Punk as a heel who hates the fans but they aren't going to pretend that everyone hates him either (outside of whichever announcer has Vince in his ear that night).

See, I think the clashing styles helped it, because neither one was going to let the other get to him. Punk could say whatever he wanted and Rock wasn't going to be affected, and the Rock was likewise. If Rock tried to match Punk's style, I don't think it'd be as good, it only worked as well as it did because they played off each other despite having such different styles.
That and I think the shoot style really needs to be used sparingly to even be effective.

People have been wanting to hear why Punk turned heel since it happened. He turned heel for The Rock match, so it's only natural that the defining explanation came on a night Rock was in the building. Also, as a stand alone, with Rock out of the equation, the way he completely used the crowd against themselves amazing to me. Getting them to do a cheap pop while burying the notion of a cheap pop is brilliant. No other wrestler in the business can so perfectly illustrate a point. Punk is without a doubt the best promo in the business and one of the finest to ever grip a mic.

WWE Universe on Twitter was retweeting people praising Punk. So what's the point? The promo was great, I thought. If anything, it was the reverse of Cult of Personality. Everything he said about the fans, the system and the crowd was true, but he said it in such a monumentally dickish way that the knee-jerk reaction is to hate him and ignore him. I found it fascinating. It's like the crowd didn't realize that they were proving his points.

Punk is without a doubt the best promo in the business and one of the finest to ever grip a mic. As has been mentioned elsewhere, the Rock in 2003 was a heel who commented on the fact that fans are too willing to cheer for a cheap pop. Hell, his run as the Corporate Champion in 1998-1999 openly declared to fans to not 'sing along' with him. That and I think the shoot style really needs to be used sparingly to even be effective. And the Rock did it kayfabe without using the breaking of the fourth wall as a creative crutch. #BestInTheWorld?

To me, Rock was really reaching for his "funny" insults. Loved Punk no-selling them.

Punk didn't actually have to say THAT much. Rock's jokes and silly names were so lame, Punk could have come across looking stronger just by rolling his eyes as if to say "here we go again"

To me it came off as if he was insulting the fan base for having fun at a wrestling show.

To me, Rock was really reaching for his "funny" insults. Loved Punk no-selling them. He wasn't really no selling them. In fact he sold them perfectly. He stood there with his face curled up and was talking under his breath. I liked that. He didn't need to act like the words were killing him but he conveyed some emotion. What was no selling was Cena smiling in Rock's face and talking over him. That stuff just isn't good at all. Punk didn't actually have to say THAT much. Rock's jokes and silly names were so lame, Punk could have come across looking stronger just by rolling his eyes as if to say "here we go again" That would have been a no no. As I stated above what he did was fine. Im glad they are not doing stuff like that.

To me it came off as if he was insulting the fan base for having fun at a wrestling show. I think he was mocking what they find fun, the same way certain people mock shows like Honey Boo Boo or the Scary, Epic, Date Movie franchises for being mindless garbage that only idiots like. He's saying that people are easily manipulated and amused. And that the things they like and are spoon-fed are base lowest common denominator. Punk seems to represents the angry elitist contingent. Those who convince themselves that the world easily digests what they're told to like and doesn't want to think. And while a lot of people do in fact fit that mold, Punk says it in such a dickishly condescending way that he just rubs most the wrong way, despite there being a thread of truth to almost everything he says. I however kind of get off on it. There's a side of me that likes seeing clever instigation, so long as it's rooted in some kind of factual reality. I however also love The Rock, and whether it's nostalgia or not, admire the dude's energy and passion. I'm torn in this feud. I kind of wish they'd just shrug their shoulders, shake hands, then collectively take turns mocking and obliterating the phony and inconsistent John Cena character. Team Punk Rock would be the best thing ever.

To anyone else, Punk sold those jokes and insults the exact same way he always sells that kind of thing, be it coming from Cena, McMahon, Triple H or anyone else. He sold those jokes the exact same way any heel sells that kind of material from a babyface. To a CM Punk fan, however, it was simply GENIUS and AMAZING the way he "no-sold" Rock's jokes. Any other heel in this business today would surely have laughed along with the Rock and said "you got me there Rocky!" but not CM God. My favorite part of the promo was when he told the audience they'd eaten too much ice cream! That was revolutionary heel work right there, and illustrates perfectly why CM God is the finest to ever grace a mic.

Team Punk Rock would be the best thing ever. I get what you're saying. But even elitist smarks can still have fun with things like "cheap pops", and the like. I mean the fun in it isn't so much cheering certain people as it is the crowd participating in the show. I know from experience that some people will chant both parts of the "lets go Cena/Cena sucks" chants". It's just fun whether you like the guy or not. I don't see anything wrong with heels ripping into the crowd for cheering people, but leave stuff like cheap pops out of it, that's just having fun. Then again I'm someone who believes if you like a heel, then you boo the crap out of him, because that will help him much more.
