I have 2 because they were equally as bad, Montreal for starters is the most biggoted place I've ever visited. I was refused service before just for speaking English. The French there are snobby, and rude. The other place is Shreveport Louisiana, which is hell by definition. My brother was in the air force there, so I visited him there, we got robbed at a red light. Kids dancing on street corners with crushed soda cans as tap shoes. Great place.

The Montreal one can sadly be more or less confirmed by Matt from Two Best Friends, who commented on a video of a belligerent Quebecois tearing into someone, saying that it is unfortunately par for the course.

I have nothing against Montreal, as all of my visits there have been pleasant, but I've heard it said by people who live there that the Franco/Anglo tensions in that city are much higher than they are in the rest of the province.
My vote would be for Saint John, New Brunswick. Most of you have never heard of it, and those who have heard of it have likely already confused it with St. John's, Newfoundland, which frankly is an insult to St. John's. It's the largest city in this province, and it's awful. The street layouts are a confusing mess, the air smells like a combination of sulfur and shit, and a thick layer of grey smog perpetually blocks out the sun. If you're ever planning a trip to Atlantic Canada, avoid at all costs.

I've heard it said by people who live there that the Franco/Anglo tensions in that city are much higher than they are in the rest of the province. I heard the same and from my few interactions with Québecois people, I can believe it. They seem extremely proud of their language, which wouldn't be a problem if they weren't so narrow-minded about it. Ironically, over here, I think people aren't proud enough of our language, what with everyone's fascination with randomly including English words to discussions, whether it makes sense or not, and even when we have an equivalent in our language. And yes, I said "their language" because Québec French and France French are so different they really can't be considered the same language.

Glasgow, last time I was there, kept getting asked "Do you have any spare change pal" in that annoying whiney voice they seem to have.
It's without a doubt my least favourite city in the country. Though perhaps it's because I am an Edinburgh born native and see them as a rivalry.

I was originally Born in Berlin, Germany. I moved to Australia at the age of 2. After living here for 13 Years I have noticed how packed some of our best Main Attractions are. It's too crowded for a small place.

About 3/4th's of the jokes about Detroit are sadly true.
Most of the untrue ones refer to Robocop actually existing.

Youngstown, Ohio. If Bruce Springsteen has a song about you, chances are you aren't a fantastic place. Just a really depressing looking town. To think, I almost went to college there.

I live in Montreal and I can say that yeah, there are some big problems here. Overall it's not a bad place to live but the language issue has caused so much trouble. Being refused service is nothing new, I've heard of that happening and being yelled at for being English is another thing I've heard of as well.
As far as I know, most Quebecers won't get on your case for it but there exists a group of people here who are fanatical about it. I'm very surprised that they gave you guys trouble because they are usually very nice to Americans - you guys get a pass. The people who did what they did must have thought you/they were anglophone Montrealers, which is a bad thing to be in this province with these types. It's the anglo Montrealer who is 'stopping' Quebec from being an independent country so we're vile and evil and lower than scum.
If you follow hockey, it was these types who caused the biggest stink over our temporary English coach last season.
I'm sorry you guys encountered that crap...but it doesn't surprise me. Montreal can be a great city but it's sad that it gets ruined by a lot of this stupidity.
Edit: If anyone wants to read an eye-popping book about this, I suggest trying to find 'Oh Canada, Oh Quebec' by Mordecai Richler.
You won't believe some of it because it seems so insane but it's sadly true.
One highlight is the government spending almost 50 grand in hiring a French language expert to create a word to replace "stop" on stop signs because "stop" is English and therefore an affront to the French language and culture.

Not knocking the actual cities themselves, which have a lot of good-to-great things about them, but just my experiences there:
-Philadelphia. I've been there plenty of times, but in 2008 I went to a Mets/Phillies game at Citizen's Bank Park and committed the cardinal sin of just wearing a Mets sweatshirt. That apparently gave people the right to scream the most derogatory things at me, AND put their hands on me (which lead to me instinctively backhanding a fan across the face, then immediately moving away to avoid the crap storm I knew would come next). During the course of that game the entire stadium cheered when it appeared Jose Reyes (then the Mets' shortstop) might've had a concussion, then booed when he got up and was ok. I regularly go to games in New York City, regularly see Devils vs. Rangers games here in Jersey, and I have NEVER heard, seen, or experienced anything so scary at a sporting event.
There's a lot of wonderful things for a history teacher/buff like me to do in Philly, the pretzels are also great, but the sports fans (obviously not all, just the ones we'd all consider the dregs of their teams' fanbases) are just the absolute worst, and make me want to avoid it.
-Boston. Again, a place with tons of history, some fun things to do, but why does EVERYTHING have to start closing by 12:30am?! And THEN you can't catch a cab home, because all the cabbies only want to pick up the good looking women...and even most of them get left out in the cold! Screw that transportation and pub system, awful.
Also spent one of my last vacations up there with a couple of women (an old friend and her roommate), and never realized how vigilant one had to be for creepers, though I suppose that's true just about anywhere, not just Boston/Cambridge.
Of course, that trip also resulted in me getting cut above my lip and having to go get stitches in the ER, but that's another story. Put it this way: I was the only person in the ER and was ready to get taken care of...but then the Sunday night Yankees vs. Red Sox game let out of Fenway, and suddenly I had to wait in line behind a bunch of people coming in with head trauma.
So, again, these were NOT bad cities, there's plenty of enjoyable things to do in both, and obviously the majority of the people in each are fine, as well, but, ugh, not fun experiences.

Glasgow, last time I was there, kept getting asked "Do you have any spare change pal" in that annoying whiney voice they seem to have. Then stop hanging around central station and looking for prostitutes then. Also, I wish to marry the person who mentioned Dubai. Worst place in the f***ing world as far as I'm concerned.
