The whole "Cool off on Cena" thing basically caught on by 2009, to the point where most people don't mind him. That "WE'VE CENA NUFF" thing was permeating back in like 2006 to 2008 though. Glad it's done.

The win-loss chart annoys me. He might not have as many wins as other people but he still has a better winning percentage. Had he wrestled more, he would clearly have more wins than, say, Damien Sandow. He's a main eventer so I think he should win a majority of his matches but that's a stupid number to infer anything from.

A few decent points made... which all ended up nullified by the fact that the writer tries to take a few extreme views that some fans have written, and tries to paint the entire IWC as at fault.

I don't care about win/loss, I don't. He could be champion for life. His matches are actually pretty good, in that they tell a story. Workrate be damned, the story is all that matters in the end. And when paired with someone who can bust out more moves, they click and the match is THAT much better.

The problem with Cena is that his character is so stale/stagnant. There's been no added depth and no character development. He's the same guy he was in late 2005. His promos drone on and on, he skirts around edginess, but never gets there. But that hasn't even mattered in like 10 years. Sometimes he'll break through and give us a glimpse of the REAL John Cena and that's enjoyable.

Man that whole page is excruciating to read. The article itself and the comments section. There's one guy who counters by saying the writer of the article must be like nine years old and wasn't around for the attitude era and thus knows nothing about wrestling. Then it's the usual elitist smark douchebaggery. Man wrestling has some annoying fans.

Issue:
Cena's character is the problem, not him winning/losing.

Write him as someone who doesn't brush every loss off, and write a story arc which changes a part of his personality (in kayfabe) and people'd be less tired of him.

I think he's a boss in the ring and a decent promo man, but I dread him being on TV because he's been around so long with the same act. Rey Mysterio was the same for a long while, but due to injuries and him not being around so often I actively enjoy seeing him compete nowadays. If Cena took a few months off every so often and they revamped how they wrote his stories then I'd enjoy him again.

It's not the fans fault for not enjoying a certain aspect of a character, if they booo the face of the company you change your writing to make him more relate-able/sympathetic (see: Nexus storyline, when he was beaten to a pulp by Lesnar) or turn him heel (worked a Hell of a lot for Rocky Maivia).

And then he shows that Cena's number 4 in the highest victory ratio, the loss being to Rock, Ryback and Tensai(yeah that's weird), and then to interventions, but don't worry kids he'll get his win back next time!
I don't get that some people can say that, Cena is the guy to beat, Cena is the guy who won't tap, who won't quit, who no one will take down, and if they do meh, he just doesn't care, he'll get his win back soon, and then he'll jump around after eating trucks to the face for 20 minutes, maybe at some points after shooting(LOOK AT ME I'M LIKE CM PUNK!) that his opponent sucks for realzy he'll let him get one win via interferences, (well this year he doesn't look like he'll do that anymore) but it doesn't change the fact that in the end, Cena wins.
But I'm just saying that to be cool, well you know what? People who do that kind of articles only do that to be cool, because not liking Cena is so 2009(Just kidding, I understand that people would like Cena, but saying it's just to be cool is just douchyness).

The article didn't load for me, but from these comments, I get the gist. I don't see what win/loss has to do with a "fake" sport. As for Cena, I'm not a fan, but Cena IRL seems like a great guy (asside from the alleged filandering). His matches are fun and exciting and he can talk. As its been said many times, the problem is how he's booked. The superman who shrugs off major losses and insults, responds to heels with 4th grade antics, and plays too much for the kids makes me a non-fan. To repeat most people, he's stale.

I'm a Cena fan. I like Cena, and know what? I like his corny jokes. But that article is...pretty bad. It cherry picks the worst reasons for hating on Cena to the point where most of what he argues isn't really up for debate. "People who think that Cena, the person, is somehow a bad person are idiots because they got no real info to back them up" is...yeah. We know. What are you even arguing?

And then there's stuff like...

An underdog is what Cena is. A guy who takes his licks and comes back.

Not...really, no. An underdog is someone who is expected to lose. Coming back and winning doesn't come into it at all--in fact, it denies what being an underdog is. Unless you are expected to lose, you're not an underdog. Treating the invincible hero as an underdog is what bugs people about Cena. I don't mind, but hey. That's a fair complaint and the article misses it by trying to sidestep the complaint by redefeining a goddamn word to fit his argument. Riley, Ryder, Santino and Kofi(depending on who they are facing) are underdogs. Cena is not an underdog, he's...whatever Punk said. And that's great.

Punk holds the title for a very, very long time and what do I see? Praise.

This really depends on where you look, really. Even some people here are kind of tired of that.

Putting my fandom of him aside for a minute: I think Cena's terrible booking has blinded a lot of fans from how talented he actually is.

After seven years of him dominating WWE, people are obviously going to get sick of him. I don't share their sentiments since I find him one of the most entertaining guys in the company, but at this point trying to paint his character as an underdog is ridiculous. It's like I'm at a party, and the DJ's playing music that I personally enjoy, but a lot of others at the party don't. As much as I like it, I don't need to hear it 24/7. I can go listen to what the DJ's playing anytime I want, it's ok for him to play other artists. Even though I like John, I don't need him dominating the shows constantly.

My only issue is the dislike for the type of character he plays. I don't mind the occasional anti-hero, but pro wrestling has kind of beaten them to death over the last 15 years, so I find the jokey good guy to be a breath of fresh air. I don't need constant "intensity".

As much as I criticize IWC favorites such as Ziggler and Punk, I do respect and admire their respective talents. All the insults and jokes that I make are meant to antagonize their diehard fans who overrate them. Now in regards to Cena: Yes, his character is stale. Yes, he pulls the same “SuperCena” schtick multiple times. Yes, he is corny at times and I hate him for it.

Yet, I can’t be a Cena fan without taking loads of criticism for it. Everywhere I look, I see insults, jokes, little wise-cracks, and at times hypocrisy.

So he can dish it out, but he can't take it. Yeah, moving along....
